I have an x51v, it says it has 64 megs of ram, but I know windows uses some of that dropping it down somewhere in the 40's I think. My question is, why do I only have 22-26 at any given time now? It says there are no programs running, I even turned off all my today plugins (I think). So what can I do to recover that lost memory? Age of empires would surely thank you Any idea as to what is going on?

The reason you only have 22-26 is because its being used just like a computer. Everything that is running, including the OS and all the drivers, are loaded into RAM to be ran. When using today plugins, and things like Wisbar, it is normal for use to have that much left over. As long as you have ANY RAM left on these devices, you'll be ok.

You probably have closer to 35MB free but it's allocated between program and storage memory. If you'll go into the memory allocation applet in the system settings you'll see a slider that allocates between the two. You can reallocate some of that storage memory to working RAM using that slider. I don't know the exact point at which the system will reallocate automatically but under WM2003 I can reduce storage RAM to around 7MB or so leaving about 32MB free after everything has started up. I suspect WM5 is probably similar in that respect.
