Deleted and reinstalled WMDC version 6.0.6783.
Added ports to Windows Firewall Exceptions as suggested in WMDC
troubleshooting
Added exception in One Care Firewall Settings as explained in this Newsgroup
Tried shutting off firewall alltogether
Went to "serial mode" on PDA with no luck. WMDC will install proper driver
for either config and recognize PDA with same result.
WMDC will connect and recognize PDA correctly and will let me install
programs and browse CF card, but can NOT sync at all.
Error in Sync Center - Active Sync encountered an error on the Desktop
Also have installed Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007 and the PPC
Version - I get error "unexpected error opening the Business Contact Manager
store." when I check the option to sync with it.
I also get a pop up error from WMDC saying:
"Synchronization cannot be started because you are not able to log on to the
network and access information. Restart your desktop computer and
synchronize again. If the problem persists, contact your network admin."
I have not tried to uninstall Live One Care but have heard this program
causes problems..
I don't have Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007 installed, but I get the exact same "Synchronization cannot be started because you are not able to log on to the network and access information. Restart your desktop . . ."

I got no help from the MS Vista forums either. I am the only user of my Dell Inspiron9300, My profile is set as the administator, I have WMDC and WMDC update exe files set to "Run as administator" in their properties. I have all settings allowed in the networking properties, and yet it still wont sync with Outlook.

Does any one know the solution?

As a former Vista tester and user of a nice Dell Axim X51v I can only say that I have NO problems at all.
I use both the Office 2007 suite and WMDC and syncing is great. No issues whatsoever!
So maybe it's not the others to blame but ....

I'm not looking to blame, and I'm glad to hear they can work. But what should I do to get them to work. I just bought a new X51 because my old PPC doesn't work with WMDC.

I uninstalled the WMDC that came with Vista, downloaded and intalled the 6.0 ver. and WMDC driver, and it connects, opens WMDC but the I get async error and a dialog box that says: "Synchronization cannot be started because you are not able to log on to the network and access information. Restart your desktop computer and synchronize again. If the problem persists, contact your network administrator."

I am still waiting for some ideas on how to get this to work...

I really find it hard to beleive that you can actually get it to sync with Outlook 2007, WMDC and Vista on a X51V. Notes too? Got any screen shots?

My problem really seems to be with WMDC and the connection to Outlook data I believe. All the other features work and the unit is recognized and can be browsed and programs can be installed.

I am just patiently waiting to be able to use my new Axim...

me too, but if I don't find out how to fix it soon I will set up a profile for me on my wife's notebook, copy my Outlook.pst file over and get my contacts and calendar onto the Axim sync'ing with that (WinXP/ActiveSync5). But will then have to manually add contacts or appointments from my computer to the Axim and vice versa.

but if you bought a car and the suspension wasn't snappy, and it had problems with cornering you'd just assume it was American and carry on. Well that explains the way that Mustangs and other American mussel cars have survived despite their obvious flaws

BUT - the suspension worked as advertised. It was not Non-Functional. It worked as it was manufactured and designed to do.

It's a no-win situation. SpaGuru is right - he should be able to expect everything to work out of the box instead of waiting for service packs. It should just WORK - that's what he paid for.

Others are right, too. It NEVER works out of the box when you're dealing something as complicated as a Windows operating system. These things are designed by COMMITTEES. By committees of committees reporting to committees. The right hand SHOULD know what the left hand is doing, but don't count on it. They can always fix it LATER.

It's not like a little committee work was NOT done on our Axims, right?
