I did that thing with going into hard reset mode but not actually hard resetting and then the device was rerecognised by ActiveSync again as a new device.
So now every thing is fine again :)
NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dies soab don't know if its the axim or the ActiveSuck just wont do it. It tries to sync then the device just drops out and when I reconnect it: the same thing.
Then I softresetted it, with the only resutl being ActiveStink not even recognising it at all like posted in the first message.
I am receiving that same error message "ActiveSync cannot connect to the Windows Mobile powered device." This came about in attempting to update for DST. I followed the directions provided just to receive the message above. Well with a little reading I found that AS4.5 is not compatible with Outlook 2000. So I moved back to AS4.2 and was still receiving message. At that point I turned off my Ax removed the battery for 2-3 seconds put back in and turned on and my Ax connected fine, updating for Daylight Savings and everything. BUT....it only works once. In order for it to sync again I have to remove the battery. That works everytime just not very practical. I hope that works for you but not really a long term fix...any further help would be appreciated.
My X51v does the same thing. I have to do a hard reset everytime in order to get AS 4.5 to work. A pain. I uninstalled, reinstalled, etc but only the hard reset lets me connect. If I pull it out of the cradle after syncing and then put it back, it wont sync! Have to do a hard reset again! Frustrating.
Try uninstalling AS and re-installing. I started having sync problems and found 2 AS's when I went to remove it. Evidently the 4.5 beta was not removed and the final added as well. I removed both and all appears to be fine..........
Just for ha ha's I installed AS 4.5 on a laptop - I wasn't convinced that the PPC was the problem. It sync'd fine so I knew the problem was the pc and not the PPC. So I was saved a hard reset and the day of hell reinstalling apps. Maybe you have access to another machine to check which is broken, the pc or the ppc.
yea i am having problems now too, puttin the axim on the cradle now brings up a balloon that says this device has malfunctioned and windows cannot recognize it, and trying to disable advanced network functionality doesnt work because it says failed to disable rndis to use serial, i dont want to hard reset yet as i am about to leave for school

Maybe my experience will be of some help. I have a X51v and had Active Sync 4.2 working fine. The only thing I could not do was to access the internet from the PPC while it was connected, but that might have more to do with my company policy restrictions than anything else. Nevertheless, I thought I would try AS 4.5 to see if I could get through to the internet. I tried everything and could not get it to Sync. I reverted to AS 4.2, but it still would not Sync. Then I deleted the partnership, created a new one, and it works fine again. So - if you try to go back to 4.2, you may need to delete your partnership to get it to Sync again. I will stick with AS 4.2 from now on and just connect to the internet wirelessly at home.
