Soft Reset, random hard resets, date and time resetting, please help.

My axim x51v has been acting quite strange lately.

A few days ago, it began randomly resetting the time and date back to July 1, 2005. Obviously, this was a pain in the butt since I rely on it to inform me of things going on with my busy work schedule.

Yesterday, the battery inexplicably wore down. Later, it kept asking me if I wanted to do a hard reset. I kept saying no, then decided maybe that would help, so I selected yes. After the hard reset, the PDA would no longer shut off... after shut off, it would just act like I had done a soft reset, showing the Dell logo.

So I did a hard reset myself (without the Axim asking me), and everything seemed to be fine with it for the rest of the night. Then today, it wouldn't connect with activesync. I did another soft reset, and it connected, but the date and time once again reset themselves. So far this morning, it has not turned on twice (requiring two soft resets), and has again reset the date and time in both instances.

Does anyone have a suggestion? I really need this for work. Also, it did get a bit damp the other day when I was using it as an MP3 player while snowboarding... but worked fine afterwards.

Now every time I shut mine down and turn it back on, it does a soft reset. And it won't hard reset at all (just does a soft reset when I try).

As a next step, I would remove the battery for about 10 min, then re-insert.

Well, I tried removing the battery for about a half hour, but nothing.

So I've just taken it apart, hoping that maybe there's some moisture inside that's causing the problem (it sure looked pretty dry though). If that doesn't work, and nobody on here knows what the problem is, I guess I'll have to go through tech support. :(

And Spring just got here today in VT.

My warranty was already voided; I cracked the screen about three months ago, and they said they wouldn't fix it. I had to replace the screen myself since it was something like 100 bucks to have anyone else do it.

Well, I called Dell today, and they said there's nothing they can do to help... the only thing they could do is instruct me on how to do a hard reset, and that's not working. They also can't fix it, but they offered to send me out a refurbished one for $339.00.

I said no... I can get a new one for cheaper on ebay.

hard reset

Hi,

Have you installed any new programs recently. My experiences is that I installed a new programs it does similar problem. The other problem is the battery drain very fast.( Hidden program running in back ground or not fully support by the Axim) What I did is to do a hard reset and do not restore the old program. Install one by one and see whether it happen or not.

All the best.

Regards,
David
