Question Can't open contacts-not sure if hardware or software

Haven't used the axim in a while (is for my husband's use). Neither of us can open contacts, whether we try to use button or menu, it just opens the calendar. I sync'd it twice today and it shows 88 contacts and if I look at his contacts in MS Outlook it also shows 88 contacts but can't view them on the axim. I can get everything else to open. Any ideas as to what to do. (husband can't find manual so I can't look there.)
