New x51v - Activesynce won't recognise device = GUTTED
Hi everyone
I have just received my x51v and am pulling my hair out trying to get it to communicate with my PC.
The problem :
ActiveSync says "Your device was not detected", though it says that "USB is available"
It's plugged in and I've even tried it with a second cable.
I have Windows XP SP2 with Windows firewall on. I'm using Activesync 4.1.
Please please help me, I want to play with my new toy!
Many thanks in advance.

Hey Future,
I had the same issues a while back but I managed to get through it with some of information here in this forum.
1. Try creating a pair with your device from the computer.
If that does not work restart both systems and shoot for it again.
Once I got it to see my axim I was able to get 4.2 to work. Like I said it was a hit and miss with me.
2. Try updating to the newest active sync. 4.5 seems to be more repeatable at syncing than the previous versions. As a matter of fact I probably sync 98% of the time. The 2% usually requires me to go through the motions of setting up a new pair (Which the axim will request, when i select the sync from blutooth option).
Hope that helps...

Are you running a firewall?

Have you gone into Settings-Connections- USB to PC and unchecked the option "Advanced Network Functionality"? This makes the ActiveSync process a mere USB connection rather than ActiveSync going out to the internet to get your email and then acting as a server to the Axim - this part screws up a lot because of firewalls. I have this option unchecked on my Axim and when I sync now using the cradle (USB) I never have any problems. Also on the ActiveSync screen on the PC, go to Tools-Options and be sure "Allow USB connection" is checked.

If it just says connecting.... It is almost certainly a firewall problem. Try making sure all firewalls are disabled and try again.
I had a similar situation with ZoneAlarm and the only way I could fix it was uninstalling ZoneAlarm (disabling it did not help, needed to uninstall). I now use Comodo as a firewall and don't have any problems.

Strange, I use Zone Alarm (free version) and I was able to sync with it, but choose to do the USB to PC syncing, by disabling the Advanced Network Functionality option on the Axim; I don't think it would be wise to ever disable a firewall to sync your device - there are ways around that. Just my opinion.

Activesync USB problem
Activesync USB problem. I have a X51v with the latest version of Rom A12 . I have discover that the Ax is not being recognised by Windows when using the cradle, it says "Windows cannot recognised the USB device connected to the usb port." I have checked all the setting and all seem correct. If I connect using bluetooth, or inferred this connects to the activesycn without any problems, I have discovered that if I uninstall the Broadcom bluetooth stack. The Usb cradle will now work without any problems. or any alteration to active sync setting on the pc. I wonder if anyone else has had this problem and is there a fix? I have also tried ticking & unticking Pc to Usb on the axim
It seems that the broadcom bluetooth stack software is causing the problem. On my Axim, the only reason I use broadcom stack is for my bluetooth headphones which will not work with ms bluetooth stack which is awful anyway. I know broadcom bluetooth stack is a workaround to give x51 owners better bluetooth support for different devices. As Dell looks like ditching PDA's I don't expect any more Rom updates. Or Wm6.
My setting
Pc-Active sync 4.5
Pc to Usb unticked
Active sync connection usb ticked
Rom A12
Lookforward to any advice
Regards
Richard J

I have a Axim x50v, A5, WM2003se, AS 3.8; will not sync with current programs, etc but if I hard reset to factory settings - no problem - AS works. However, when I restore from backup file, AS refuses to work. What can I do?
Thank you.

Hi
I experienced the same problem yesterday when I tried to install the widcomm stack on my X51. With widcomm installed, I could not connect with activesync and my adim in the cradle. When I uninstalled widcomm, activesync in the cradle works fine. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi Ve8Jl
nice to see that some one has the same problem, I am going to delete the bluetooth stack files one by one to see If I can locate the file/program which is causing the problem or it could be just a reg error . I will keep you informed

I only soft reset the axim after installing the widcomm as the install program suggested. When I noticed that activesync was not working, I reinstalled activesync on the pc and rebooted the computer but no difference.
I would have imagined that other people would have experienced this problem as my axim is pretty plain jane. I don't have any fancy stuff loaded onto it.
Please do advise if you come up with anything. Thanks.
