bad ground noise in car

I use my Axim to listen to audio books in the car on long trips which I take regularly. My car cd player has an 1/8 inch input so I can plug my Axim directly into the stereo. It works fairly well except the volume is a little low. But some times the battery will get pretty low on long trips. So what's my solution? Just plug the Axim into my cigarette lighter power inverter. This plan is great up until I turn the stereo on. Then I get a terrible buzz which clearly overpowers the audio coming out of the Axim. This is obviously the result of poor grounding. The only solution to this I have discovered is to listen to my audio through a headset while it's charging. This is obviously a less than adequate solution. I imagine that I am not the first person to encounter such problems. Does any one have any ideas about how to solve this obnoxious problem?

You need a ground loop isolator. Circuit City, Radio Shack, Best Buy all carry them. Unfortunately, you'll also need some adapter cables because the isolators (usually) come with RCA phono connectors.

Best bet is to actually fix the noise in the car, not just for the audio.

Go to any stereo or electronics shop and there are several solutions there

For the low volume issue, I heartily suggest the free fix from x50mix:

hi. i have had the same problem, but i'm using a cassette adapter rather than a direct input. i find that it helps to plug in the cigarette lighter adapter WHILE the audio is playing, rather than befo playing. i still get a little hissing from time to time, but usually i can turn up the music to drown it out. -or- i just unplug it and let it play on battery power. =) hope that helps.
