Mad X50v Battery Drain

I'm desperate for some help, since my X50v is out of warranty. There were originally 2 problems and I thought they were related, but it doesn't appear to be the case. The first problem was that if I bumped the bottom corner of the PDA, even slightly, the whole system would reset. I finally traced it to the battery cover, but taping the back didn't really fix the problem. In the end I opened it up and put some tape on the microswitch, but it turns out it didn't fix all the problems.

If I leave the PDA in my car and it gets cold overnight, the battery apparently drains completely! That means the whole system gets wiped out and I have to restore from backup.

Any ideas? BTW, Dell told me it would be $300 to replace it with a refurb. Lovely, eh?

Thanks!
Rich

PDASmart.com fixed my Axim and I would recommend them. It had a different problem but they may be able to help you.

Have you tried the Fake Server Trick? Even if that doesn't solve your problem, it may just be a new battery.

Make sure that when you turn it off that the wifi is turned off. if the wifi is on when you turn it off then when it wakes up at midnight to do its usual bookeepign duties it will just stay on and not turn off until the pda is dead. Sort of an easy thing to check and you may have done this already but what happens when you take it in the house? getting it cold shouldn't make that much difference unless it is REALLY cold but even then it shouldn't complety drain the battery. You may want to look at what you have loaded on your today page too. If something on there is trying to get an update every 5 minutes then it will constantly be turning on all night long and that is hard on the battery drain. You might also want to do a full backup and then a hard reset and see what it does with nothing on it but the ROM loaded programs. If it doesn't drain the battery then, slowly start putting your programs back on it until you figure out what is causing your prolblem. And as others have mentioned here, the fake server trick might help too. let us know.
