Hi All:

I got an x51 secondhand, and have found the manuals online at dell. I'm still wondering why windows creates a "Windows Mobile based Device #X" LAN connection if I can't use that connection to surf the web from a docked axim. Am I missing something? Can I configure that connection and have the docked axim use the USB connection to the PC as a proxy to get to that virtual LAN device and access the internet? Seems possible, perhaps even reasonable.

Yes, it's possible and reasonable. You need to make sure Activesync on the PC is set to allow it. In AS, File, Connection Settings..., This computer is connected to:. "Automatic" (the default) should work but try "The Internet" if it doesn't.

AS has to stay active on the PPC so if you use a program such as vBar that closes the program with the 'X,' you should just go through the Start menu to open Explorer or the mail program.

Thanks for the quick reply. The reason I wasn't connecting properly was that I had a VPN connection running on the machine I'm activesync'ing to. Brain's on auto-pilot today. Thanks again.
