51V slow as sludge, hard to turn on, driving me nuts
The axim is giving me fits. FIrst i was plagued with the cannot execute \Program Files\Funk Software\Odyssey Client\OdClientCE.exe error. Then it got to where if it went to sleep it would freeze, and i can only turn it on doing a soft boot. Now i do a soft boot and it takes 10 minutes (literally) to load! what is going on and how do i fix this thing? once its up, it runs fine--but getting it up takes FOREVER and heaven help me if it times out/goes to sleep--I have to start the soft book/10 minute process all over again. this is getting WAY old.

Dell cannot seem to give us a solution for using Odyssey client without slowing the PDA down to a crawl. If actually using the Odyssey client, when the PDA wakes up the user gets spammed with the Funk notification errors. Dell's "patch" clears up the errors, but the PDA will no longer work with ActiveSync. We have 50 doctors and nurses that are sick of the Dell devices because of this. Without Odyssey, the Dell WiFi client is too promiscuous, so turning OD off is not an option for most users.
If you have to use Odyssey just disable it before you turn off your pda. it is only a couple of taps to do that and it then starts back up so nice. The only problem would be if you turn it on and off a lot then it would become pretty tedious. I use it at work to get on our company intranet but then kill it when I am done.

That is not a realistic option for users who need WiFi all day long (our customers are doctors and nurses). The PDA is supposed to be usable immediately upon powerup (or within reason). Once Odyssey has been in use for a few weeks on a PDA, it fills up the notification queue, and then gets into the situation where it hangs waiting on a timeout for what seems to be 60 to 90 seconds upon coming out of idle mode; or at least this is the best we have been able to determine, because the problem does not happen on a freshly setup PDA with Odyssey.
Secondly, the only reason we use Odyssey is because otherwise the Dell WiFi client constantly alerts the user of other access points, and causes problems with the user's single, preferred access point. With the default client we get constant user complains about WiFi dropping, reconnecting, etc. in areas with multiple hotspots. If the default client had a way to lock it down to one SSID, we could probably go that way instead of Odyssey. Are you aware of an alternate client that will do this?
Might I recommend Hitchhiker as it can be used to automagically connect to preferred networks as you are wanting, is freeware and, as far as I know, isn't a load of rubbish that clogs up your PDA the way the Oddessy client does...
Granted it does need .NET CF2, but heck, at least it works...

Hitchhiker actually does what we want, except it crashes with a .NET NullPointerException, though I can't tell if it affects the WiFi or just the GUI. Thanks for the suggestion, if you are aware of any others out there, I'd be obliged.
