I need help. I have a Axim x51v with 2gb SD and 2gb CF. I needed to get something off another SD card so I removed my main SD card, inserted the new one, downloaded the file and re-inserted the old SD. To my surprise, I can no longer access the programs or data files tied to programs on the old SD card. It is now called SD2. Does anyone know how to change it back to SD and not SD2 without destroying the data?

I am with you. I have my email attachments set to go to my sd card and occasionally it must get unseated as the attachments are sent to a file (not the sd card) named SD Card. Then the card gets named SD Card2. I have not found out how to rename the card so I delete the file named SD Card and remove the card, reinsert it then do a soft reset. That restored the proper name to the SD Card. Fortunately it is not a continual problem.
When you remove a card that is in use by some program and that program tries to write/create a file it will create a new folder that impersonates the folder it was writing to. For this reason alone I would never put mail attachments or any system type folder on a card that may be removed in that way. I use CF for system storage etc as I rarely remove it and SD for removable storage...
What I've done in the past is:
1. soft-reset to make sure all programs using the card are closed
2. remove the SD card
3. go into the remaining "SD Card" folder and copy any files you need out of it to the CF
4. go to the root folder of the device and delete the "SD Card" folder
5. re-insert the SD card and it should now appear as "SD Card" without the "2"
Hope this helps.

Wow! I never thought I would find this info. Thanks guys.

If I remember correctly when I had this problem I deleted the new SD folder and then removed the SD card and re-inserted it and it then read the it correctly. I do not remember having to do a soft reset or moving any files off and back on again.
I get this occasionally on the 8525 as for some reason it looses its mind and forgets the microsd card is there... usually it is fine after removal reinsert.
But I have seen the above issue as well

What program is giving this problem!? I have evaded it 3x now.
I remember the 1st time I had thought a hard reset was the only way to go, then I've found out I didn't have to (like in post 3).
As what I experienced, remove the SD card > soft-reset > reinsert the SD card can solve the SD Card2 issue.
However when you have a today plug-in which is assigned with SD location, soft-reset will trigger the plug-in first to find the said SD location and it will generate a SD Card location in your device storage if SD Card is removed or it is assigned with a name "SD CARD2" before soft-reset.
So the solution is to remove the said plug-in from the Today.
I just had this happen for the first time today. Not sure exactly what happened but it may be related somhow to moving dll's to the sd card? I moved some of the dll's and then decided to restore from an old backup and noticed that a few shortcuts no longer worked. that is when i found sd2. I am trying it again to see if i can nail it down to something I did or if it was just a coincidence today.
All I did was use SKTOOLS to rename my storage cards to what I want them to be called. So my CF card is called Media and my 4 GB SD card is called Storage Card. Fixes the problem once and for all.....thank you SKTOOLS!
