E-mail program freezes when I select an e-mail.
I just got into the Wi-fi area of the X51v. I am not a Geek, so I am asking ignorantly, but I am hoping for a basic and simple solution to my problem.
Our System Administrator, who is a Linux Geek, helped me set-up my Axim to receive my e-mails and to get onto the Web. It worked for a couple of days, but I had to Hard Reset and Restore from a Backup copy (Dell Backup Utility). Everything that I wanted was restored, but unfortunately the e-mail part was not. I then went through the steps that he did and got it back. The problem is, I can receive e-mails, but once I select one of them to open, the e-mail program freezes up and I have to Soft Reset (using the stylus and the ON button - at the same time). I have gone through the steps:
Messaging > Menu > New Account > (Step 1 of 5- type in e-mail address ______ )[next] > (Step 2 of 5 - Auto configuration) [next] > (Step 3 of 5 - User Information) (type in Your Name ________ , type in User Name ________ , type in Password ______ [next] > Step 4 of 5 - Account type) I am using IMAP4 [next] > Step 5 of 5 - Server information) type in Incoming mail: _________ , type in Outgoing mail: _______ , Domain: ___________). I did not do the domain one, for I do not know that one.
I then tap on the Options and I go to the next Options Steps. (Step 1 of 3) I did not do this step, I put my connect: The Internet. (Step 2 of 3) I use the default here too. (Step 3 of 3) I select "Get full copy of messages" and I clicked on "When getting full copy, get attachments - only smaller than 25 kb. [Finish]
This works, but it freezes on me every time I select an message.
Please help me if you can.

Hye,
Sorry, but that's not for helping you but for feeding the discussion ... I have exactly same issue, but not at the same stage.
My X51 freezes when I ask for receiving mails. When it freezes, I have to Soft reset. And then, it receives the mails, and I can open them.
If after a while, I ask to receive, it freezes again and then soft reset, receive .....
Help greatly appreciated.
Youna.

This is still a problem. I know that there are people on the AximSite that can answer this question. Even if you do not know how to specifically answer this problem, please lead me in the right direction. I definitely do not know what to do.
PLEASE HELP.

HELP, HELP, HELP !!!!
I did what I didn't want to do ... I did a hard reset, hoping this will solve the issue.
But it changes nothing !!! Still the issue of freezing when dowloading the email.
It downloads the headers, and at that stage it is not yet freezed. That's when it downloads the mails themselves that is freezes ...
Can someone help us, Ignatius and me ? (and all others ... by the way).
Help greatly appreciated.

Mail error
first things first what you are doing is a hard reset and not a soft reset, second can you tell me what is the memory space left on the axim and how much mail are you trying to sync, the more the file size the chances for it to freeze. Does this freezing happen any other time.

I started from scratch, but still not able to load an e-mail.
I did a hard reset. I mean a HARD reset - back to factory settings. I then reloaded everything. Which, I have to say, was a lot of work.
Now, instead of it freezing (meaning, the only way to do anything, was to soft reset) on me, as before; I can press the "Send/Receive", and I get my e-mails, but when I select one, it shows that it has been selected, but it never opens the e-mail. I have tried every e-mail in my box. Ones that are 3K to 87K. There are 15 messages in my Inbox.
I hope that this information can help.
Thank you for responding.
One good thing out of this whole thing, is I am getting better at using this computer. It is also a good exercise in patience.

By the way, the memory on my Axim is not even close to being max'ed out.

Exactly same issue than Ignetius.
Hard reset (factory setting). Number of mails or size of it changes nothing.
Once freezed, if I do soft reset, then it downloads fine. Memory space largely available.
Strange ...

on mine, depending on the connection, you have to select the email then hit send/receive again to make it go out and get the rest of the email. Or wait until it syncs again. Bye the way, hitting the button in the back and the power button will do a hard reset. just the button on the back is the soft reset.

Dear all,
Thanks for the hints but the question is not about doing hard or soft reset ... We do know how to do that ... and what it means.
More clearly ... When it freezes, I have to do a soft reset to restart (Axim completly blocked).
I did a hard reset because I though it was a problem of bad install of something, and that retrieving the factory settings would solve the issue. Not the case.
Now I also noticed that it freezes when I have configured to get all the emails (header and content) at the first sync.
So I changed the settings and asked to receive only the header. There, it does not freeze.
Then when I want to read a mail, I select it and then I sync again and get access to the full content.
So far, no issue. But that's not the best option for me.
