Mad Aaahhhh! Broke my Screen - X51v

Panic attack !!!

You just don't realise how much you rely on these little PDAs until you lose it!!

Stupid Stupid! me, dropped it....screen broken.

Can any one advise me where or how I could replace the X51v screen??

I am based in Australia (Down Under.....not Austria), so am guessing the choices might be limited.

I could probably replace the unit my self ......I am reasonably capable with screws and cable plugs and such. Most of the things I have puled apart I got back together :)
I saw in an earlier post an ebay seller from china..... selling replacement part supposedly "Manufactured by Sharp".

Has any body sourced same from this place???,
..any feedback on quality of product???.

The post said that the digitizer function was "less sensitive". ????? not sure what this means?? needing more pressure?? less accurate??

Any help/guidence greatly appreciated. I am sure you understand I am in a state of 'withdrawal' !!! ;-)

Cheers,
Phil

By less sensitive I suspect he meant that it wasn't as accurate and he probably just needed to realign the screen, as you would expect with a new digitiser.

PDAsmart does screen assemblies, just make sure of which you are getting, vga or non-vga screen: PDASmart is the Axim Repair and Axim Parts Headquarters!

Otherwise ebay is apparently good, though I wouldn't trust it as far as I can throw a lead elephant, what with all the fake everythings and people selling second hand rubbish at shop prices.

I'd be devastated to loose or damage my Ax, it'd be like loosing my arm in an accident or something... don't know what I'm going to do when it dies.

Just found Expansys AUS has them too: Buy a PPC Techs Dell Axim X50v/X51v Touchscreen and LCD, #D50-LCD01 - eXpansys Australia
Don't know if that is cheaper though.

That's great info:approve:

Phil expansys is the only local supplier for many axim parts and accessories, but compare your prices carefully, I haven't bought anything from expansys because it has always worked out cheaper to order online from U.S. and pay for slow freight. Takes out the middleman markup, and the packages are so small that the freight costs are neglible.

Thanks for the replies Pedah & Mokubai.
...and the web site links ....tooo easy!!

It appears that Expansys AUS are using the services of PPC Techs Inc in the US to complete the repairs.

Exspansys AUS just do all the handling from the Australian end, shipping to the US and back, and then back to the customer in AUS.

They quote a single price for replacement of the touch screen and the LCD components ...$425 AUS dollars.

PPC Techs website Pocket PC Techs - WriteSHIELD™ Screen Protector/Lil' Sync® Cable/Power Adapter Accessories, Screens/LCD Repairs, RAM/Memory/Battery Upgrades for Pocket PC, Windows Mobile, Pocket PC Phone, Smartphone, Palm quote 2 repair options
1. to replace the touch screen only, US$149
2. to replace touch screen and LCD US$209

Apparrently if you just have cracks across the top surface glass, you may only need the touch screen component replaced, however there can be non-visible damage to the LCD as well.

The LCD damage is characterised by sections of the LCD panel looking like there are dark ink blobs blanking out sections where the cracks appear in the glass.

My descriptions, see the web site for pictures.

I assume that Expansys AUS is quoting for the worst case scenario and giving price for the complete replacement of both components ( ie saves hassle with a touch screen repair requiring the full replacement job , a higher charge to customer or reshipping a second time....maybe)

On the PPC Tech site, it mentions the international shiping could range from US$40 to US$80, so after handling fees and shipping. exchange rate (currently 0.83) are taken in to account, the AUD$425 is not far off the mark, and they do all the work ie no worries for me to organise!!!

but yes this is not an inconsiderable amount for me!!!
... but then I neeeeed my PPC!!!

I think I will try Expansys AUS.:approve:
