Remove the battery and try running the axim directly from the cradle. and chk the lights if everything seems to be working fine, then it must surely be the battery.

Well, I just tried to contact Dell support in Japan. Their e-mail system didn't let me through because it didn't recognize the service tag.
I've filled out the "Unit Location Transfer (International)" form, I'll have to wait for that before I can go any further. Calling them is out of the question, my Japanese is not good enough; in writing or face-to-face I can usually make myself understood, but on the phone I just get stuck (especially because customer support people use this incredibly polite form of Japanese that I can't follow half the time). I suppose I could go to the Dell store in Akihabara, but that's an hour travelling both ways, and I'm not sure they even do support there.
As for using something other than Dell itself, I don't like the idea of sending it overseas. I don't suppose any of you know any PDA repair shops in Japan?
I just want to warn you in advance, that water damage is typically unrepairable... in that most places will refuse to work on it due to the liability factor. If they can clean it from any obvious damage then great, but there will be no warranty.
Most repair centers will just tell you to cansider it scrap and buy another one. I doubt that Dell will even look at it. "Water Damage.. Soaked in washing machine? hahahaha... click <dialtone>"

I do not think Dell will do anything for you. THey don't actually service Axims. If it is under waranttee the submersion will have nullified that, unless you have the total care coverage (or whatever that is called).
In any event, they would either say it is not covered, or completely replace it.
The other places mentioned here will services it, and it is expensive, because it is delicate work, takes a long time, and is difficult to do without breaking something else (so it takes knowledge and extreme care).
I think your Axim is on borrowed time, and will eventually develop erratic behavior, until it is unusable. Other than opening it yourself and sending it away to get fixed, I think you really don't have any other option.
First people are telling me I must have it checked out. Now you're telling me I can't have it checked out?
That would mean I have no better option than to use it until it stops working, and then replace it, right? Which is what I expected in the first place. Heck, I was as surprised as you guys that I could still get it to work at all.

Don't be confused, your axim went for a swim, it is susceptible to all sorts of problems after immersion, if you can find a good tech to open it and clean it, go for it. If you want it to fix itself, you'll probably be buying a new device soon.
I also said it needs to be cleaned, but if there is water damage they will likely shove it in a shoebox and mail it back to you for a burial
If they cannot find damage, a cleaning will likely prevent future damage from occuring.

Ok, then who, in Japan, will look at it?
Why does this have to be so complicated? At least when I submerged my phone in hydrogen peroxide there was no doubt about it being dead and staying dead (not much left of the insides except copper-oxide dust; even the SIM card could not be salvaged). :P
Maybe I should just wait for this thing to come out and ask Softbank if I can upgrade my plan to it. Would cost an arm and a leg though, probably. :)
I'd look at it, heck I'd bring all my tools and rubbish just for a chance to go to Japan, but first I'd need the money for a flight over... and a convincing excuse to give the wife....
At this point I go for the open her up, check for gunk and try to gently remove it. No water, just a soft brush.
