Hi guys,
My axim started doing this 3 months ago, 1.5 years after I bought it. I don't want to open it by myself, but was thinking about sending my Ax to PPCTECH guys for replacing capacitor. I am not sure if they provide this service. They did RAM upgrade for my Ax year ago and I was very pleased with their service.
Using auperglue on an electronic circuit card can sometimes cause corrosion of components. Superglue gives off acetic acid as it dries. probably Better just to use a piece of tape to hold it as you solder it.
Thanks Bill_Todd for starting this thread. I started having the problem of the time resetting upon battery change about 3 months ago and decided to use the program from mikelspikel for the time being because I don't change batteries that much. But then my x51v started doing the battery latch was opened thing and I decided to fix both things at the same time. I ordered 3 caps from Mouser and installed one as well as soldering a jumper wire across where the battery latch switch was. My x51v works like new again. I removed the battery for 30 seconds or so and it held the time in memory!! WOOOHOOOO!!! :approve:
I'm a happy camper- no more need for the program (sorry mikelspikel, great program, but I don't need it anymore) and no more battery latch messages.

I wish nobody needed to use the program! It'd mean the Axim's cap works as it should. :)

Here it is the small app I talked about before. It works as follows:
Once installed, it places a battery icon in the system tray (srvctec, for the moment this is the only way, but I can change it easily if you are interested in another way for launching the app).
Whenever you want to replace batteries, tap on this new icon. You'll be asked whether you want to replace the battery. If you answer yes, the app stores current date into the flash and suspends the Axim. Once suspended, just replace the battery and power on the axim again (powering on just after replacing is important because if you don't do so, the stored date is no longer correct). During boot, the app will detect correction is needed and will update the incorrect date with the stored one adding 60 seconds (more or less the time it takes replacing the battery and booting).
Let me know if it works OK for you.
Oh my gosh!
THANK YOU MIKE! :approve:
I was wondering why my time and date was going away all the time... I do not want to open my X51v; just way to danguarous. I could probably solder the battery fine, but I cannot risk that. The only time when it was opened when PPCTechs did my RAM upgrade. ;)
Thanks again! What a handy program...

You can get a Panasonic ENCEN0F204RK from Farnell in the UK for £2.45, part number 130-5071. This is a direct replacement for the original in the Axim. Or you can get a CPC part number CA06053 for £1.55 but it is the wrong package and would have to be bodged.

That's good to know :)
(Farnell have dropped the £16 US import surcharge they used to charge on these things)
Thanx for the posts everyone. I finally did mine and all is well. For those people with aging eyes one of those swivel lighted magnifying glasses is a great help.

I love it. Thanks. It works like a charm and looks fine on the system tray. Good work Mikel
