If you have hard reset the device, make sure that you have restored the Regional Settings on the Axim (Start > Settings > System (tab) > Regional Settings (icon)).

Thereafter, it's always worth trying a different USB port, making sure that the connection pins have not been damaged and that the Axim is properly set in the cradle.

Then, look at any recent updates to your AV and Firewall (especially if you use automatic updates) and make sure that your security applications are allowing bidirectional communication.

Check that you have sufficient memory on your PC (both RAM and ROM) to run the device.

Then try looking for BIOS updates for your PC (especially if it's a DELL!)

Hope at least one of these suggestions is helpful.
