Evil Back-Up Battery of Death!

It happened to me last week. I notification popped up on the screen say that there might be a problem with the back-up battery on my axim. I was busy at the time & just dismissed.

That was until last night when I swapped out batteries. When I turned my axim back on the date & time reverted to 7/1/05 12:00 AM. Then I knew that my axim had a problem.

There have been numerous discusses on this topic but has anyone fixed the issue by doing a hard rest?

I was on-line with Dell Chat a few minutes ago. They wanted me to do a hard-reset. I told a fib & told them that I already tried that. I am currently out of town & no way I re-install everything at the present time. Especially if a hard-reset is not going to fix the issue.

They said in that case they would send my out a replacement which is going to be a refurb because I am past the 21 days. If someone else has had luck with doing a hard-reset then I'll give it a try. If it works I'll tell Dell not to bother sending the replacement.

I don't believe it can be fixed by a hard reset. Apparently there is a capacitor that goes bad. This capacitor holds the time long enough to change the main battery. When the cap goes bad- no more voltage to hold the time in memory. See this thread for info.

Yes, I am aware of the capacitor. Volumes have been posted about it. Stranger things have happened though. I am just wondering if something might of gotten corrupted or something. Beside the damn thing has been really sluggish over the past couple of months. I takes forever for it to boot up. Not to mention all of the WM5 errors that I have been getting lately. I am going to do the hard reset anyway. If it is going to be sent back I want everything wiped anyway.

Big Surprise, a hard reset did absolutely nothing. I used the MS back program to backup everything. When I tried to restore the backup it came back telling me it was invalid. A lot of good that did me. I had to settle with a older backup which was fine.
