Why a big "D" in the middle of the screen?

All,
For no reason I can figure out whenever I access Contacts a 1-inch high black capital D on a white square appears on the top of all images that move beneath them in Contacts until I tap what I can see of a record to move to detail view.

I do not believe I have seen this in any other program on the Axim, but writing this I realize I haven't made a super-careful inventory of "sightings".

No taps can make it go away.

Any thoughts?

Jonathan

Sounds like part of your OS is corrupted.
If you hold down the scroll key on WM5 while in contacts, after a few seconds, it goes into a fast scroll mode that shows capital letters in the middle of the screen. They dissappear when you release the scroll key. Sounds like something is stuck in software on your PDA.

The Big "D" -- explained!

Thanks for the explanation... that has to be it. The "D" appears on all alphabet groups. The screen must have been pressed in my pocket in just that combination. Sorry for the delay in checking out your responses. Busy life and few chances to enjoy web access.

After some Palm experiences I try to avoid resets but will back up everything and try that this weekend.

As long as you don't have any programs open a soft reset will not lose any information, it is about like restarting your home computer. A hard reset WILL lose all your personal information, including all data and programs loaded by you and is more equivalent to a formating of your hard drive but it will retain the operating system. Generally these sorts of problems will resolve fine with a soft reset.
