When I first got my x51v I only had a 4GB SD card with it and that worked fine from the start. But recently someone gave me a 1GB CF card which it refuses to detect EXCEPT only after doing a HARD RESET - Soft Reset doesn't work to detect the CF card!! Needless to say when I restored, the CF card was no longer detected.
I really don't want to have to start from scratch to get my x51v to work with CF cards, but my SD card is running low on space so I need to add a CF card.
Is there any way to force my x51v to detect my CF card? A registry hack maybe?
My main apps are:
ActiveSync 4.5
iLauncher 3
Wisbar Advance 2
Pocket Player 3.1
Coreplayer 1.1
Textmaker 2006
Resco File Explorer
Resco Pic Viewer
Memmaid
Lexionary
Lexipedia
SoundExplorer
Opera Mobile
SPB backup
If the card works after a hard reset, it sounds like a piece of software you install is making either a registry change or a DLL change that is affecting the timing or other interface characteristics of the CF interface.
I would:
1. hard reset
2. insert the CF card and verify it works
3. start re-installing one application at a time and check the CF card after each for functionality.
I would try wisbar, memaid and SPB backup first to see their effect.
It could also be your ROM revision level. My unit is at A12 (the last legal one from Dell directly) and that upgrade resolved every issue (including missing CF and SD cards) that I had with my X51V. If you need to do the upgrade be sure and read the thread on this site for a step by step process to follow exactly. This upgrade has been reported to brick some peoples units.

Good luck
I think I'll have to do just that - cause the card has only been used once, and works perfectly when I hard reset.
I'll just start from scratch and see how it goes - thanks all:)
turn off power and reboot, soft reset did not work
I am using 4 gig CF card , I have to say most of time it work well, if x51v did not detect CF card, I just turn off power and reboot, soft reset did not work.
