Question Axim x51v - slow startup

Hi, I am new here and have been following the discussions on slow startups. My problem is similar ... but different:rolling:, so I'd be grateful if anyone could help. Sorry for loooooooong messge, but the more detail the better.

Bought an Axim x51v on eBay last year. All fine. Never really used WiFi. Last week, for the first time I ventured into Odyssey client etc and set up a wifi link with my bro's wirelss network. Ever since we touched the Odyssey program my machine has had slow startups - taking 20 seconds to wake up and some ODclient.exre message in my face. I read the threads on this website and so I disabled Odyssey and then removed odClientCeAutoLaunchSmart from startup. Still have poutlook, SplashV and SwitcherBar in startup. Message is gone thank God, but still there are delays. Impact: 1) The alarm to wake me up half comes on (sound stops, then comes on again and the Dismiss button doesn't appear for about 10 seconds) and 2) if I am reading an iSilo document from the SD card and the machine sleeps, when I turn it on again, iSilo closes (and doesn't appear in switcher). Any ideas? I am not a techie, I am all for plain Enlgish.

Many thanks, Barso

Try an application called MemMaid, you can get a trial, to clean up your notifications!

Hi Barso,

You can go into Windows\Startup and delete the poutlook.lnk. That was the biggest culprit in my slow startup (it even went to the point where it would crash my device).

And DO NOT clear/clean all the notifications or you will need to hard reset your device to get them back. Generally, don't touch the notifications unless you are comfortable doing it. Even with programs that help you clear them, be very careful. Definitely DO NOT touch the repllog notifications because they're tied to ActiveSync.

Thanks Pedah & Neo

I used Memaid cleaner and it seems to have done the job. The alarm worked properly and the machine works much faster. Was about to look at more (daring)cleaning up, but will be careful after having read Neo's warnings...

I think that part of my problem is that I use Calendar for hundreds of reminders and anniversaries so the machine probably overdosed on notifications and then Odyssey pushed it over the edge....

Again - thanks a mil, back in action. Barso

Thanks Neo for the tips! My x51v has been slow (not too bad, but it took about 5 - 10 seconds after entering my password) starting up since I got it, and I just figured that it was normal. I removed outlook.ink (don't use my PDA for email anyway) and also the Odyssey file from startup. Now my PDA starts almost immediately after entering my password and just seems faster over all.

I'm glad I stumbled across this thread!

Glad everything's working fine at your end barso and srvtec.

Regarding notifications, you might want to check this thread out:

If you want to know, I've made the mistake of tackling my notifications recklessly (I actually deleted ALL of them one time and had to hard reset). Truth be told, I've learned my lesson and have been extra careful in what I'm doing when I'm clearing my notifications.
