It has massive power drain. The X51v was powered on and fell from a height of 4ft. The battery cover came off and the battery popped out. Now, after I remove the fully charged unit from the cradle, the batter drain is staggering. Note, I am using a different battery than the one involved in the incident. It is at about 90% after 5 minutes and 70% after 10 or 15 minutes. This happens with the processor running at 104Mhz! I've checked all the settings I can thing of and have done a soft reset. Next step is a hard reset, but I doubt will do anything.
It also seems that the unit is running a bit hotter than normal. With it in my palm, it seems notably warmer than before, which would confirm more batter drain.
I just noticed that I can not turn the WiFi on. Using the Axim WiFi utility and pressing "Turn on" results in the Axim thinking for a few seconds, then nothing. The buttons still reads "Turn on" and the Wifi LED does not do anything.
A drop like that may have loosened or disconnected something and should probably be looked at by a certified technician, if you are not confident to open the ax yourself. Try a hard reset though and see if that rectifies the problem.
Bumping this issue again as I have more information. Basically, I've discovered that after starting my Axim, the WiFi is trying to do something - cosntantly. When I go to the Dell WiFi utililty and press "turn on", nothing happens. However, the battery drains very quickly. THe only way I can stop it is to turn on the flight mode, then turn it off. Everything works normally after that and the battery drain is normal. Any ideas?

It sounds like you have knocked something loose inside. There are instructions somewhere on this site to take it apart and put it back together if you are inclined to try that. I think I would try the hard reset first though before you either take it apart or send it to someone like PPCtechs.com
From a cold start, the wireless button does not work. It acts just like going into the Dell utility and trying to "Turn On" the wireless (that is, nothing changes). The green light is not blinking which indicates the WiFi is not on. However, the power drain is enormous and the unit gets hot.
Then, if I turn on flight mode - the wireless button works properly and the unit behaves normally.
I doubt it's a short because it's possible to turn the Wi-Fi off using the software. If there was a physical short inside the unit, then fiddling with the software would make no difference.
Wi-Fi is a real power hog, though. My x51 warms up quite a bit with it on.
I use my 51v on wifi a considerable amount and it barely gets warm
on long sessions, what I am suggesting is that something has come loose
i.e. the wifi/record switch may be shorted hence the heavy draw
and if it can be shut off using WLAN then wifi will probably not
be the source.
