Aximsitebluetoothicon Belkin says you can't sync certain widcomm bluetooth based devices using Vista

This info may apply to many other widcomm/broadcom chip based devices made by Belkin and many of the many, many other manufacturers who use this chip from widcomm/broadcom. Check their support websites.

F8T008/F8T009/F8T012/F8T013 How can I synchronise my Pocket PC device over Bluetooth under Windows Vista? BTW 4.x, 5.x, 6.x
Question
What do I need to do in order to get my PDA connected to my Windows Vista computer so that I can synchronise over Bluetooth?

Answer
This is not possible. This is due to the way in which Synchronisation works in Windows Vista, which is not something Belkin has any control over. As such it is highly unlikely that PDAs produced before the advent of Vista can ever be made to synchornise over Bluetooth with it.

There is no ActiveSync for Vista. Synchronisation is performed using the Sync Center which works in a completely different way. Whereas ActiveSync gives you the option to select which port you want to use for the connection, Sync Center tries to detect devices automatically, giving you no option to tell it to use a certain port.

Googling this subject reveals some suggested solutions revolving around altering a specific registry entry to match the number of the Bluetooth COM port, forcing Sync Center to look on that port for the device. This has not been tested by Belkin, and if attempted is done so entirely at the user's own risk.

Aximsitebluetoothicon What Bluetooth chip is in the Axims?

Does anyone know what bluetooth chip is in the Axims?

While I do have a Belkin Broadcom/widcomm chip based dongle on my PC, it could be interesting to know if the Axim itself has a Broadcomm/widcomm chip itself, and therefore buying another dongle will not solve the problem I inform about in this thread.

They need to come to this site for more info. I don't remember who figured this out but it works just fine. I changed the com port as outlined in a post here and it has worked ever since. I always love it when they say it 'hasn't been tested'. So go test it! it only takes a minute to prove it. oops, ranting again.

edit: here is where I found the info the first time: http://www.aximsite.com/boards/wirel...ork-vista.html
