I bought and plugged an 8GB Kingston Elite Pro CF into my X51v. Shall I presume "not bright use of funds"?

Though I can see all the files copied onto it in File Explorer, most of them won't function. When I only wrote iGuidance to it, iGuidance functioned. After writing about 4GB Mp3 to it, I had to re-write the map files to the card to make iGuidance function again. The mp3 files will not play from it, but will from the 2GB SD card.

The 8GB card is formatted FAT 32 with 4kb clusters. The AXIM has the A12 ROM installed. Might a different format (FAT 32 with 32kb clusters?) make this $90 mini-frisbee useful, or any other options anyone might suggest trying, regardless of decreasing storage size?

All you are talking about is fine. Where did you copy the files from.? I just got a 8 Gb sandisk card. I used a card reader to copy the entire contents of my old CF card [2Gb sandisk Ultra2 to laptop] then copied whole file to 8Gb card. Works fine. The OS will recognise the files you copy to the card but it will not necessarily associate files on the card with an application. So if you have copied aand pasted without system info the files on the card are just data and not associated with your application.
