Problems synching through Targus docking station

Although I did achieve synchronisation once (after which) the Axim disconnected, I am unable to connect my Dell Axim 51v through the Targus ACP45EU using ActiveSynch v. 4.5. The laptop simply locks up after trying to connect. And sometimes the Axim locks up. I have used the Axim for over a year quite happily and can connect to my computer direct and I can still (re-)connect direct to my computer (after I have rebooted it). I have reinstalled the Targus software and Targus have sent me a replacement station. Help please.

I inadvertently found the solution by unchecking a box for “advanced network functionality” in Settings/Connections/USB to PC under a legend: “Changing the type of USB connection your device uses can help with problems connecting ActiveSynch.”

I have just spoken to Dell's PDA tech support section out of curiosity to find out what this software switch did only to find that they didn't know it existed!
