I turned on my Axim X51v today but I couldn't pass the logon screen. Somehow the screen alignment on my X51v messed up. I decided to cold boot the unit. Restarted fine, PocketPC Windows shown but when I clicked on the screen to start the align screen, alignment process keeps looping!! I stuck at the align screen now. I can't continue.

Can anyone give me an advice?
By cold boot, I'll assume you mean hard reset, when you get to the align screen, take your time to be accurate! You could also try, soft reset, and use the lock switch to freeze the axim screen, use a business card to clean between the axim chassis and screen to make sure you don't have any grit causing a permanent tap, disengage the lock switch, and continue the align. Otherwise hard reset again.
Not working. I might have messed up the digitizer.
Before the problem happened, I put a screen protector and used a credit card to push the bubbles away from the screen without locking the button. (I know, stupid me!!!)
After restart, I had a problem with entering the password. Somehow the alignment was messed up.
When I clicked #1 on the screen, #4 is selected
When I clicked #3 on the screen, #6 is selected
#7, 8 & 9 worked fine.
But I couldn't select #1, 2, 3 from the screen.
That's why I did the hard reset to go back to the original settings but it didn't work. Now the screen just stuck at the align screen. No matter how accurate I am clicking the haircrosses and no success.
I heard that you can replace the welcome.* (* forget the extension) with the working one on other X51v PDA. Is that true? How can I replace it if the file is a read only.
Call Dell for help but was told the warranty has expired. They informed me to replace/buy a refurb one.

Just a quick one, Do you still have the screen protector on?
The protector can mess things up, if it is touching the sides or on so tight that it is flexing the screen it could be causing your problems.
Try taking it off and see.

did the screen oriented on the preset one or did you change it before you turn off your device?

I have the same problem here.
I was using TomTom 6.1 when it froze and the same screnn alignment problem.
Now I am stucked at the alignemnt screen.
Thanks for your help.
N.B I did all your recommandation Pedah and still with the problem.
I don't quite understand this? You were using a program, and the axim froze, and you
1 soft reset,
2 hard reset.
then you came to a non responsive axim.? Or are you telling me from GPS program freezing you went straight to align screen?
Your digitizer may be bad, it happened like this on many x5's, on my current x51v I am seeing problems like this, you should send it into dell if you have an existing warranty, otherwise, try tapping the dots slightly inaccurately. My axim shows signs of it when I run the digitizer and drag my stylus along the screen edges it isn't flush with the side of the screen of the lines aren't fairly straight, indicating a faulty digitizer.
Regards, Derek

It happened quite often with TomTom that it freeze coming back from a sleep mode but a soft reset would bring it back except for this last time.
I had a similar problem with my X51v. Fortunately, I still have about 300 days of warranty left.
Every time I powered on, it wanted to perform a screen alignment. I would go through the steps, but the routine would just loop.
I finally got past the alignment routine, opened up NOTES and used the stylus to draw diagonal lines across the screen every 1/8". I found that one corner of my digitizer had gone bad, as there was a large blank spot where there should have been lines.
I then swapped it out w/ Dell. Got a refurb, but it's running great!
I got it to work again....
It is weird,
1- At the allignement screen did a soft reset
2- back to the allignement screen I clicked on the calendar, contact, mail and home button in any order without trying the allignement.
3- power off, power on the unit
4- back to the allignement screen, did the allignement procedure and It worked!!!!!
Don't ask me to explain this!
I've had this trouble getting past the alignment screen on my X50v before - next time that happens, I'll try this 'button' trick and see if it makes any difference. Thanks for the info.
