Axim won't power up without soft reset, plus 2nd qn.

I'm having a problem with my Axim x51v not powering up when I turn it on. I think this happened first the other night after I recharged it. Now 9x out of 10 I must perform a Soft Reset to get it going. (I cannot take the battery out....long story but it's wedged in somehow and I pulled the tab off it trying to gently get it out.)
============
ALSO....what do we do when we really need help with our Dell Axims? I don't have a warranty, bought this on eBay, and who would I call to repair it (or just get the danged battery out)?
==========
Thanks very much. Britta....still a newbie to all this but I have been studying for 2 solid months!

First off - Welcome to Aximsite. Lots of good info and assistance here. :approve:

You're definitely have a strange problem. You might want to check the lock button on the left side to be sure it's not on. You may also want to do a search in the hardware forums.

I'd definitely want to get the battery out. At some point in time you'll need to replace it. Better now when you're still playing with it than after you get a lot of programs installed. I'd carefully put a small thin blade under the side with the broken tab and carefully pry it up. Don't force it to the point of breaking anything. Just enough to get it unwedged from the case.

Before you do anything though - do a complete backup. That way you won't lose what you already have.

There are a few repair places who work on the Axims. Minimum of $60 to do anything on your PDA.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.

Thanks very much. I was afraid you'd say that! I might try that....today it powered up a few times right away but otherwise not. I'll back up and try the battery removal...grit my teeth. I'll let you know but it may take a while for me to get my courage up! I'm just beginning to enjoy this device.

I've got to believe the battery will come out with a little pressure. Those pull tabs are weak at best.

When you do get it out and reinsert it, try doing this for future removals. Get some masking tape and cut a strip about 4". Tape across the bottom, so that about 2" hangs past the end opposite from the battery terminals. Insert the battery. The tape should fold up over the end of the battery. Then, just push the tape down onto the top of the battery. Then, next time you need to remove it, you just pull the tape up and the battery should flip out. :exc:

I used to do this with radios when the tabs broke off. The kids tended to pull too hard.

Good luck. :approve:

Thanks again, I'll keep those positive thoughts. Could you use heavy duty strapping tape? I'll let you know how it goes.

That might be O.K. The key is thin. Too thick and it'll make it difficult getting the cover on.

Did you get that battery out yet?
