Axim "forgets" the network key

My apologies if I missed this somewhere else in the forum but....

About every other time I turn the Axim (x51v) on at home it doesn't know the network key. After I enter it somewhere between 2-6 times (seems to vary each time) it eventually takes it and all is well. The next morning it's 50-50 if it will remember the key or not. The key has been entered (and confirmed) in the settings so it should just take it when it chooses to connect to my router.

Any suggestions? I've noticed a thread about updating some wi-fi files so the correct signal strength is displayed, or something to that effect, but it doesn't seem on the surface that it is something I need. Or do I :-)?

Thanks,

Tom

I don't remember anyone reporting this problem before but here are a few things I would try:

Make sure your router's SSID is unique (maybe another network in the area confuses the Axim into thinking it doesn't need a key);

Check for firmware upgrade for the router;

Upgrade the Axim to ROM A12 (if you haven't already);

I would apply the WiFi fix (it shouldn't affect your problem but it probably won't hurt, either);

Make sure both drop down lists on the Network Management page are set the same, I recommend 'My Work Network' for this.

Same here

I had SK Tools running automated cleanup jobs every morning...not saying this is the problem, but I disabled the feature yesterday and will see if it drops my WEP key again.

Wasn't SK Tools, or Memmaid....it just "forgets" my WEP key. Even did a hard reset and same thing happened.

I too had this problem.

I finally guessed that WM5 associated the network key with a specific AP somehow.

We have 10 APs at the school where I work, which is where this happened to me.

Since WM5 stops you from usng cut & paste to enter the key into the NW configuration field, this becomes annoying very quickly. I often had to re-enter the key several times before it would work.

I eventually used the Axim's Odyssey client to manage the NW keys to avoid the nuisance.

If you don't like the Odyssey client, you can try Hitchhiker, which can store NW profiles, including the NW key.

I have since flashed my ax with an "experimental" WM6 ROM, which has eliminated this problem for me, though I am experiencing some small stability issues, so I will be trying another OS sson.

Hope this helps!
