thom28,
Even if I had rhinocase, it would end up with a cracked screen. It fell right on the screen, onto the shifter on my jeep.. :(
Zaniax, thanks for the info and the link. The more I read about the replacement procedure, less comfortable I feel doing it. I think I am going to have to take a chance with the cheapest one out there, instead of pauying $80-$90. I paid $175 for my X51v - Used, so I honestly don't want to pay another $100 only to mess up during the installation.
If anyone wants this for $125 or something like that, let me know. Otherwise it is is perfect shape. I went back to my X5 for now. :(

You're welcome - that's really what we are here for :approve:
Should know you're not alone. I'm posting from my ax #3 which I simply bought used as the previous, repaired one crashed (again) in a traffic accident.
You can buy a replacement digitizer screen on ebay for around $8.00 and there are a few sites on the net that gives step by step intructions for replacement , I did the same searching and found a site and printed the instuctions sorry to say I didnt get the url its a delicate job. More so than replacing the digitizer and lcd as one unit. Good luck
For any interested as I see this is an issue on Dells, I found this on the net when searching but cant find the url for it. The instructioins include pictures also but I cant get them on here
Dell Axim Touch Screen Replacement Instructions:
Please read before starting. This document is to help you replace your touch screen. The first thing you need to do is save your data. As soon as you do undo the battery. you will loose all data. This is not a simple process, But can be done if you take your time.
After completing the backup of your unit, remove the main battery and the backup battery of from the unit. Use your stylus to achieve this. Once they are removed, you can take out he four screws which are each hidden below the rubber inserts.
Once done you will see 2 screws where the main battery was. These also need to be removed
You are now ready to lightly pull the rubber side inserts of f the casing. If you do it slow, you should be able to slavage the double stick tape, If some tape comes off. it can be replaced with tape. You will do this for both sides. If both sides are off, you are now ready to split the casing . With the casing split, you will push the back casing to the side untill you are ready to re-assemble the Axim. Now you will notice an audio connector that needs to be unhooked. This is in the upper corner of the board. Now pull the board up and out towards the bottom of the unit so that the board will come loose out of the Audio jack hole.
After the board is pulled out , it will be only attached to the LCD and the front bezel. Can be put to the side untill re-assembly. There are four plastic prongs that hold the main board to the LCD, Lightly bend the prongs out of the wayso the main board can be lifted up so you can get to the connectors
Now you will take the 3 cables loose that are connecting the LCD/touch screen assembly BE VERY GENTLE WITH THESE CONNECTORS!!!!!!!! The small connectors loosen when they are pulled out towards the cableand tighten when are pushed in. So when it comes time to re-assemble, you will push the connectors back in. The large LCD connector pulls up to loosen the cable and is pushed down towardsthe board to tighten it. IF after assembly is completed and you do not have video or the video is grabled, this most likely the problem.
Once the LCD is off the board , you are now ready for the disassembly of the LCD
TAKE YOUR TIME!!!!!!!!, Now you will want to take your razor blade and lightly cut in under the touch screen. DO NOT GO TO DEEP!!!!! Some parts may be harder to cut than others. You will go all the way around the LCD to cut the old touch screen off.
Once the touch screen is removed from the LCD, you will needd to blow the dust and glass particles off the LCD. This can be done using a can of compressed air. DO NOT USE ANY LIQUIDS ON THIS LCD. DO NOT TOUCH THE LCD WITH YOUR FINGERS. ALL YOU WANT TO DO IS REMOVE THE GLASS PARTICLES FROM THE LCD
If there is any double sided tape still on the LCD housing ,you will want to scrape it offas much as possible so that the new touch screen will be flat against the LCD. It would also be a good idea to blow off the new touch screen which will allow the touch screen to adher to the LCD. REMEMBER THE TOUCH SCREEN CABLE FACES THE SAME WAY AS THE LCD CABLE
Once the LCD is compoleted, you are almost done. It will goback together like it came apart. Just make sure that all the connectors are properly in the lock position.
I am sorry but I still cant find the url where I found this but maybe with some searching you can find it , the instructions do include step by step pictures to help guide thru the process
Good luck
I did some more research and found a link to the site, I hope this works not only does this get some instructions for the x50v but a few more dells and a numerous other pdas of different makers PDASmart File Download Server
I decided to put it up for sale. Before it goes on ebay, feel free to make an offer. I am looking to get $130 for it. What do you think? $130 with leather case, 512 CF, strap handle, cradle, cds, cables, charger, etc.. and boxwave skin case. I am not sure, if this is too high, tell me please.

dude, how aout i just fix it for you? I've done more than my fair share of PDAs. Only reason why i splurged on a new one was because it had complete care and mine started having memory issues.
Consider it a chirstmas present as long as you pay for the the $8 digitaizer:)

Really? That would be incredibly nice of you. I can go back to my great VGA maps again. So, how do we go about this? Very generous offer, thank you.

I do sincerely admit that i've never done JUST the digitzier on my pda, although i've done it on my transnote (yes, i'e taken apart LCds before..this lcd had a 10.4" digitizer which IBM pissed me off because the digitizer was cracked, not the screen, and they led me to believe that i could not repair it until WELL after the warranty had expired), but i have an x30 one to see what goes on. I'll use that for a practice run. I will also do my best not to scratch up your screen (JK JK...ill make sure not to)
Anyways, yes, i will PM you my address. You can wait until you get the digitizer and send it all at once, and i'll send you an IOU- 1 repair lol, which is probably the best and cheapest idea. i suggest you do not order for any place that says it will take 5-15 business days if you want it now, as it generally takes the latter, but beggers can't be choosers at this point
as for the digitizer, tis up to you where you get it:). I suggest ebay, only because, honestly, they'l cheap enough that you can do it again.
Any money you get for Christmas can be spent on an Otterbox. That's the price my friend will have to pay for running ti over (me dropping it was partially her fault for me making a break for it from her car. What can i say, i'm irresistible lol--JK JK)
