X51v Battery Charging - Strange Behavior

Hi,

Just recently I noticed that no matter how long I charged the battery for in my X51v, the charge light was always orange and the battery meter never showed any increase in charge.

I have two batteries and the same thing happens no matter which one I use.

The strange thing is that if I remove the battery and charge it separately, in the cradle charger, it charges to full capacity and works fine.

Could something be damaged inside the unit that is preventing the battery from charging whilst in the PDA ?

I'm running WM5.0 with the latest BIOS. A soft reset has not fixed this.

If I wanted to get this fixed can anyone recommend a company that can handle this kind of work ?

Thanks in advance.

only guessing but wouldn't it be that little dongle thingy that fits on the bottom of the axim. The only part used in charging axim and not cradle???

I would say that's a pretty good guess by Mostlylisten,if you aren't having
any problems syncing then it could just be the power contacts that are
damaged/bent/wornout.

Thanks.

I had wondered about that. Looking at it I cannot see any damage to the connectors but I also wondered if the Axim has additional circuitry inside to prevent overcharging or to regulate voltage when being charged by something other than the cradle ?
