On top of that, the axim refuses to detected the battery. I also tried another battery.

I've never seen an example like that before. Have you flashed it to something other than the stock ROM? Have you tried a hard reset?

Looking at the last screen capture it's obvious you have apps
installed, has it happened since installing a new app by chance.
When in doubt backup/hard reset/reinstall apps 1 at a time.

This is literally a case of 'one minute it's working, the next it's not'. No software changes, nothing like that. I've tried Hard Reset and even Rom Re-install. Still stayed the same washed out colors.

Would you have any idea what could cause something like this?

Looks like its time to go to your spare X51V on the shelf. If you do not have a spare you can always get on from Ebay. Another option is to get the just released HP Ipaq 210. Its now available for ordering at $450 and matches (IMHO) the X51V in its capabilitys with a upgrade to WM6.

I had a cheap screen protector that gave me the lines like your last pic, but not the washed-out colors.

I think your right. Rom-Reinstall / Hard Reset would take care of any software related issues. This must be a physical part that's damaged.
