Axim is frozen

I have an x51v, about a year old. I downloaded a lot of software quickly, too quickly, and it started misbehaving, and now has completely frozen. I've tried to hard reset and I get to the screen that has you press the contacts button to do the reset, but I press and nothing happens. Any ideas? Is there another way to do the hard reset? It is currently useless. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Jack

Push button in the back of the Axim while pushing the power button for a few seconds this should hard reset the axim to the factory settings.

One other comment that will delete all the programs that you just added. If you can get into settings/ memory/running programs/ stop all programs that might help.

I know it sounds stupid but is the lock button OFF?

I must sheepishly reply that I forgot that the thing had a lock button, and that was the issue with the hard reset (I think, I haven't tried it again). I still have very sluggish performance (after removing half to three quarters of the programs I installed, though that did help some), and I'm not sure if I should go ahead and hard reset, or uninstall everything first. The problem is worst when I start up, after it has shut itself off or after a soft reset. It seems like it is trying to connect, and that keeps it from doing anything else (I always get a "can't connect" error message when I soft reset, but, again, it is sluggish even after auto shut off, without that message).
Anyway, thanks to all for the help-any suggestions on this one?

Use File Explorer and look under the 'StartUp' Folder under Windows. Check to view hidden files. Probable culprits could be poutlook and/or OdClientCE. You could safely delete these shortcuts from the StartUp folder. You could also delete the SplashV too.

Use File explorer goto windows/start menu and see what's becoming
active on bootup.
You can just move the link from start up to someplace else.
It could well be some app like activesync is trying to handshake
somewhere after ppc boots,if it is activesync you need to apply
the FAKE SERVER TRICK which you can find here on the forum.
