All of a sudden my computer does not recognize my x51. This means I cannot sync it to my computer as a backup as well as transfer files. I tried different USB ports. Is my cradle bad? Please help.

how do i get a cd rom for dell axim x 51 v cause the disk i received in the mail was damaged. this is to set up my pda.

PW this happens quite often, for starters take the axim out of the cradle, try a soft reset, close activesync on the PC, wait till the axim restarts and reinsert in cradle.
Things to be aware of
Have the most recent rom version, Rom AO12
Latest version of active sync, 4.5, from Micro$oft. (disregard if you have Vista, as it has Windows Mobile Device Centre)
You can delete the partnership in activesync and recconnect, to set up a new partnership
Hard Reset last resort

Welcome to the site Mellisa, You can get activesync, the software at the Micro$oft site. the latest version is 4.5, if you are running Vista on your PC, it has WMDC [see previous post] and you already have the software to sync your Ax. you will need at least Outlook XP [2002] as well:o

Try Ebay for another CD as well :approve:

You can also try wiggling the PDA while it's in the cradle. I have two cradles. One has no problem - insert and it syncs. The other one I often have to wiggle the PDA until I see the sync process start.

I also could be a bad cradle. I've had one go bad myself.

I worked with someone whose Axim cradle stopped worked. We were able to discover this by using my non-cradle USB connection cable on her device which allowed her to sync and be recognized. We then swapped out her cradle with my cradle to see what would happen, and in short, my cradle worked fine with her device and mine, but hers failed on my both Axim and hers, so we got a replacement.

My dell did that to me also.
I cleaned the connector with compressed air.
I tried new parterships reinstalled active sync finally I cleaned both connectors.
