I can't find the old sticky about setting up the fake server to stop Axim X51V battery drain whilst turned off. Do we still need to do that with ROM12 or did Dell fix that issue? If I need to do it, where did that sticky go?

It seemed like most problems people were having that the fake server trick fixed were not a problem with A12, but I went ahead and did the trick anyway (it doesn't hurt anything to have it set up).

All the fake server hack does is give you access to the screen where you can change the setting in ActiveSync so the application will not turn on automatically. You delete the fake server as soon as you are done, but the new settings stay intact. When you perform a factory reset or install a ROM update, the setting goes back to the default (Activesync turns on automatically to sync in regular intervals). So whenever you factory reset or install a ROM update you always after performing a ROM update, you still need to do the fake server hack or else ActiveSync will turn on automatically to sync (which could potentially drain your battery).

I just did the fake server hack again. Interesting that the A12 ROM had the autosync settings on "as items arrive" instead of "10 minutes" as in ROM A06. So perhaps, like Ike said, it wouldn't be a problem in A12. But I did it anyway since I prefer to sync manually.

I have a Axim X50V and have the hot battery/freeze up problem.

I checked my ActiveSync setting and they are bith set to manual. The strange part is that I guess everyone else has the settings greyed out and adds the fake server so they can get at the settings. I do not have the fake server but I can get at the setting for activeSync to change at will.

Does anyone have any suggestions and why I am able to change the ActiveSync settings without adding the fake server?

I don't know what ROM level I have (don't know how to find it) but my Axim has the original ROM from 3 years ago.

Appreciate any help.
