Wireless adaptor behaving weird

Dear all,

Please help with my Axim x51v.
When I turn the wireless on, noting happens (although the green light is blinking and the battery is getting empty and warms up). In the Dell Wlan Utility, if I click on "Setting", instead of the list of wireless networks I see the list of network adaptors ("configure network adaptors"), and although I tried to choose "Dell Axim v51 WLAN Wirelss Adaptor" from the list, that doesn't help.

If turn wireless on and then click on "Site" tab in the Wlan utility, it shows the list of networks and the status as "connected to network", but still I cannot access web pages, it says it "cannot connect with current connection settings".

It all looks like the wireless adaptor is screwed up somehow... I think I know the reason: I needed to set up VPN connection on my Axim, and so I have tried several VPN programs. None of them suited my needs, so I have uninstalled all of them. This seemed to leave my Axim in the same state as it had been before my VPN attempts, but alas! now I started to have a real problem...

Thanks for help!

Annabel,
feeling myself like a blond. finally.

Go to settings/network cards/ press add new and it should take you through it.

To check your connection : wlan utility/press site/ shows ssid signal.

Hope that helps

When I go there, there is no option "add new". I get to "configure network adaptors" and there I see - "my network card connectes me to" and "tap and adaptor to modify settings".

Yes, I can see the signal from wireless networks there even though I cannot get the list of the networks at "settings". Unfortunately, it doesn't help to get online.

I've had the same problem before. Try resetting the axim with the reset hole on the back.

In the network settings - Start, Settings, Connections (tab), Connections, Advanced (tab), Select Networks and select "My Work Network" from both of the pull down lists. If you then tap the Edit... button under either list and the Proxy Settings (tab), the top box (This network connects to the Internet) should be checked but leave everything else on this page blank. After tapping OK, make sure both dropdown lists are still set to My Work Network and OK your way back to the Today page and then soft reset.

Having the dropdown lists set the same has helped most often with this problem (you could try them both set to 'The Internet' in case your attempts to set up the VPN has messed up the Work settings).

Mostlylisten's directions will get to the 'Configure Wireless Networks' where the 'Add New...' option is only when WiFi is active.

If none of these work, you could make a backup and try a hard reset. If you do this, try connecting before adding back any programs. If that doesn't work, you can restore the backup but if it does work, you'll probably need to reinstall any programs.

ikehiker, I tried to set the dropdown to "My ISP", but there is no "Proxy" tab in My ISP - Edit menu. I can only create a "New connection" that involves IRDA or modem or BT.

I am thinking of hard reset now, I use Sprite for backup so I'm fine with that, but that's a lot of pain (language tools are worst!), I would prefer to find a better solution...

The 'New connection' is different from what Mostlylisten was talking about (which was to add a new network).

It looks you are trying to create the "New connection" from the Task (tab) on the Connections page. Instead, try going to the Advanced (tab), Select Networks, and press the "New..." button under either dropdown window. This will allow you to create a setup that will include the Proxy tab. After making the settings like I describe above, select this new settings in both dropdown lists and try to connect.
