X51 battery no longer fits

I've had my X51 for a loooooong time now. Its had its share of problems, but general worked just fine. Recently however my battery cover would NOT stay on. This puzzled me for a few days and I finally found out why. My primary battery has become bloated into the middle to the the point it's too fat to fit inside anymore and pops the cover and dislodges itself. Is there anything I can do, or am I stuck buying a generic replacement?

When the batteries swell like that it's generally a sign that
it needs to be replaced.
I bought 2 of the 2200mah litions with battery covers
from globalbatteries.ca for $15.95 CAN each plus $9.00
delivered to my door in 10 days, both work great.

Global-Batteries laptop, digital camera, camcorder batteries

Swollen Lipo's are prone to bursting and are also a fire hazard. Same thing happens to R/C Lithium cells. You should dispose of it immediately.

Generic replacements work, but I've had my share of problems. Received 2 X51v replacements from eForcity on eBay. They were advertised as replacements for both X50's and X51's however: 1) they did not fit, 2) one was DOA, 3) both were advertised as 2300mAh batteries and what I got were 2 1100mAh marked as "X50 Replacements" for the Dell batteries.
Obviously a poorly made knock-off

Buyer beware!

Totally agree with this post. That battery is a danger not only to your units insides but to you if its in your pants pocket or even laying around on top of anything.

Well, that explains the heat. O_o
Glad I found this site years ago, hard to find knowledgeable people these days who are so willing to help.

How come these Global-Batteries ones are some much cheaper then Mugen ones, or why are Mugen costing so much more, are they worth it?

Global-Batteries $14.23
Mugen $34.72
Dell $27.99

Lit batteries can be very dangerous.A guy a few years back in Japan had half his face burned off when a lith ion battery on his cell phone exploded and a office worker in S Korea was killed when a cell phone lith ion battery exploded while the phone was in his shirt pocket. His cell phone was found melted to his chest.

Regards,

Ko

I don't know why!
Marketing-brand name????
I just know that I bought 2 of the Global 2200mah batteries
a year ago and they still work well today plus no problems
with their battery covers todate.

See my post above - some of those batteries are absolute cr*p!:realmad:
The ones I got off ebay were dead cheap - probably why one was DOA when it came!
Neither of them fit the X51v. The DOA didn't even fit the cradle.
It's ok to pay a little more and get something with reputation that works.
Guess it's like buying copper bottom cookware: costs a helluva lot more,
but will outlast the competition (and your teeth!)

I've benchmarked Dell vs. Mugen batteries after a few years use. The Dell batteries still work like new, the 3 Mugens were performing so badly I threw them away. I would never buy Mugen again.

I've recently purchased and benchmarked genuine Dell batteries from Hyper Microsystems on eBay. I am extremely happy with the batteries I have purchased from them.

GENUINE DELL BATTERIES $16.98 a pop, shipping included.

Here is their store: eBay Store - Hyper Microsystems: Motherboards, PC Components, Hard Drives Accessories
