Can't Charge Axim via bottom socket

Yesterday, while typing my IR keyboard, my axim took a tiny bit of a fall: namely, about 4 inches, from upright to flat on its back. It took a while to turn back on after that, but I soon got the message of 'the battery has been opened, the Axim was put into sleep mode' and it worked fine after that - including Wifi and Bluetooth.

However, it seems that I now can't charge it via the socket/sync port, using a wall adapter (3rd party but full power - not USB), which worked earlier during the day. It's not a problem with the battery either as that charged fully on the base and I switched in another one. While the plug fits in fine (and I don't see any obstructions) the amber charging light doesn't come on, and software still shows it's running on battery. This is true whether the Axim is on or off. The charger itself has a light to indicate if it's getting power, and that's just fine.

I do have the internal battery problem (where the date & time reset every time I switch out batteries) as well. Since I've still the base for battery charging, my Axim is still perfectly usable, but I really enjoy being able to use the wall adapter for travel. But, has anyone had this problem before?

I have a similar problem. After driving for a few years with my Axim in a GPS car holder I find that the charging contacts are now a very unreliable.

Something inside might have popped loose.

You'll have to be brave enough to open it up and check the contacts in the socket, and the solder points on the board. I think there are places you can send an Axim for repair if you're not comfortable doing that.

I can't blame you if you don't want to. I'm a fiddler and tinkerer, but todays micro electronic devices are nerve wracking. You need steady hands and good eyes to work on stuff these days. If you want to mess with solder, you actually need to make or buy a custom fine point tip for your iron.

I sent mine to PDASMART.com and they were able to fix it.
