Aximsitesoftwareicon One Stop Help

Community,
I'm having several problems with my Axim and I know each problem has been discussed in the forum at one time or the other. I've followed each thread and attempted many suggestions, but I'm still frustrated with my Axim at the end of the day. These are my problems (once again I know these have been addressed):
  1. Latch open warning when there is no problem
  2. Wifi is intermittent; it will not hold steady
  3. Can't sync in Vista or syncing is intermittent in Mac
  4. Some programs aren't responding as advertised
  5. Questions about Dell supporting Axim; is Dell out of the PDA business?
I've been using the Axim PDA since inception, but I'm at the point of abandoning "the ship" due to my many frustrations. I need a reliable PDA.

So my last question is:
Is there out there an once frustrated Axim user who now found a reliable PDA? What is it? I too want to avoid the PDA phone combination, but I'm at the point of making concessions here! :o

Hey, thanks in advance for enduring my "whinning" and thanks for whatever advise you as a member in the community can provide me. :)

1. Either put some glue on the foot of the battery latch door that contacts that sensor which detects the presence of the battery door or try this.

2. Try WM6. It alleviates many of the issues with the Axim.

3. Try WM6. It alleviates many of the issues with the Axim.

4. Try WM6. It alleviates many of the issues with the Axim.

5. Dell has been out of the PDA business for a while now. Any rumors of them getting back into it are just rumors.

I have a x51v and I love it. I use it every day for hours and I have little trouble with it. Basically the only thing that doesn't work how I would like it to is Adobe reader. Everything else is top notch. The introduction of WM6 ROM's for the Axim have almost completely changed the quality of their functionality.

I agree with saint-francis, I have two X51Vs both with WM6 on them with no issues (including all you mentioned in your post). In addition the ROM upgrade has given my unit complete stability with new applications and interfaces. As a side note all of my applications that worked under WM5 A12 work with WM6. If you do a ROM flash just make sure you read as much as you can find here, at Lennys Forums, and xda developers forums. There is also a utube movie available. Just prior to doig my first ROM upgrade (6 months ago now) I was waiting for the HP Ipaq 211 to be released. But have changed my mind now that I have all it has (including OS and two external memory slots) without spending the $450.

rlarson_mn,
I went out and tried to download WM6, but Football's link is bad. All the other links I tried routed me to Football's link, which is bad. Is there a better place to go and download WM6 as well as the ROM upgrade?

Please read the below ONLY if you have X51v

Football ROM has been continued to be developed by LennySh. He has just released a new ROM with UC support which can be found HERE (scroll down to the very bottom) and also read HERE about UC.

I have installed the ROM and configured the UC and it works like magic (flashing + installing 20 programs automatically took about 15min!!!) In this latest ROM there may be a few bugs, but since it is easy to upgrade...

Also, for the instructions see here: Drakey87 youtube video

Have fun and do it at your own risk!
I hope this helped.

LennySh's forum would be the place to go.

He's got WM6.1 in multiple beta stages on there :)

Everyone Thanks,
I went out to Lenny's Forum and got the upgrade. My unit now has WM 6.1 and I'm looking forward to using a functional unit again.

I'm new here as a member but have been a lurker for many a year. I have had PDA's since Palm invented the Pilot. NOTHING is 100% reliable, unless maybe if you buy one of those hardened Pocket PC's made for enterprise. I live in NY City and just about every delivery person, meter reader, and traffic enforcement officer is using something running Windows Mobile of one flavor or another. That's got to tell you something. My first Windows device was an Axim 5 and it functioned pretty flawlessly for a number of years. Currently I'm using a Toshiba e800, I bought used from Thaddeus Computing about 2.5 years ago. I've beaten and I've flayed it , but by the living god that made it it's a better man than I am Gungha Din (BTW I'm using Vista and even though it tells me my device is outdated Windows Mobile Device Center, which is part of the package, syncs me just fine).
I'm looking to replace/supplement it at the moment and I found :
Cheap Pda, PDA Cases, PDA Accessories, Refurbished PDA, Used PDA, Geeks.com
All I really want to know is there any major difference between an Axim 51 and an Axim 51V except for the added graphics capability?
