Hi Guys,
Im pretty much a newbie to this forum. However i have an issue with my Dell Axim X51V pda n need some urgent help. Despite charging my PDA with the battery on the cradle for abt 8 hours or so, it constantly displays a " ! " on my battery sign and my batt goes dead within 5 mins or so. I had tried using another battery but the problem persists. Had tried to simply charge the battery by itself on the cradle but the problem persists. Had tried the Activesync "Schedule" method as mentioned in 1 of the threads but its still the same problem.
I had called Dell and they claimed that it could be a problem with the cradle and that i have to replace it. Im however not sure what could be the likely problem...could there be a problem with my batteries ?....my cradle as mentioned by Dell or with the PDA itself ?..... Pls advise. Any idea approx hw much the cradle costs ?...Thanks
Thanks guys !
Does the power button light up orange when the Ax is in the cradle?
Does the little orange light on the cradle come on when you charge the battery directly in the cradle?
Have you checked that the AC adapter is plugged in properly?
Does the Ax power up in the cradle with the battery removed?
Try cleaning the contacts on the cradle, the Ax and the battery.
Check that the charging pins aren't bent.
Check the battery cover is closed properly.

There was an adapter that came with your unit. The AC power supply that is inserted into your cradle can be disconnected and plugged into this adapter. The adapter will connect to your unit through the bottom connector. Doing this with a battery in your unit will charge the battery through your units connector. The power light should come on after connecting to your unit and show a 'red' color. When the battery is fully charged it will turn to a 'green' color. If this works correctly you have proven the cradle is the issue.
Hi,
Basically, when i attempt to charge my batt on my cradle, it starts with an orange light for abt 2 mins and then changes to green. i still left it charging for a few hours and tested, but the problem persists.
Two minutes is too fast to go green unless it was nearly charged when you started. And, since your PDA dies after a few minutes, it's obviously not charged. :(
I'd try what rlarson mn said. That eliminates the cradle. If it still dies after it shows being fully charged, then something in the PDA is the problem. You should also check the charge level when it does come on and see it discharging. :)

As advised, im trying to use the connector that came with the PDA and using the power from the cradle. It shows an orange light but am not sure if its charging. The battery seems to be fluctuating between 45-59% and remains there...Test period is 1 hour. In Power, it shows Main Battery: AC only and no other progress, it remains at 0%...is that normal ?....isit charging n should i leave it for 8 hrs to test ?....Pls advise. Thanks guys
The connector we're talking about, sometimes called a dongle, doesn't use the cradle. It plugs directly in to the PDA and the power cord plugs in to it. :)
To check in the battery charging go to Start>Settings>System and click on the Power icon. IF it's charging, you'll see a green line fluctuating across the top of the screen and showing a %. IF it stays at zero, that means it's not charging from the cradle. Leaving it in the cradle for 8 hours won't do any good if it doesn't show as charging. :(

hi, im charging using the dongle The green bar at the top shows 59% n does not seem to increase. When i go to power options, it shows
Min Battery AC Only
0%
0 100
I assume by increase the green bar fluctuates left to right but never gets higher than 59%.
If so, that sounds like a bad battery to me. But, then, you said you had a second battery with the same results?
Does the second battery show 59% also? If it's a different level, but get no higher, you could have to bad/old batteries. :(

Sorry to say this, but it sounds like your battery is hosed. You can check ebay for a new batt, or pm me :). I would bet that bernardm also has some he'd sell, since he seems to have quite the parts cache.
If you do get another battery from someone else, I'd suggest asking them to insure it's fully charged before they mail it to you. It shouldn't lose much charge in transit. :)
If they're willing to sell you a cradle at a good price, you might want to get one of those to. I have two myself (home & work) :)

If the probelm is being caused by one of those cards, yes. It only takes a minute to pop them out and try charging the PDA.
