I just bought this refurbished axim (and with a 2 year extended warranty just in case) x51v at Geeks.com, and started to learn how to use it. After a few days, this morning, I turned it on but the touchscreen is frozen. It won't respond. Any help, thanks.
I tried pushing the hard reset button on the back, and now its locked at asking for my password. The touchscreen won't respond at all. Maybe I have to send it back already? So far, I had put my microsoft outlook contacts on it, went to a wifi hotspot to try my gmail (it worked), and downloaded a few things fromt he sticky thread that I couldn't figure out how to download (so I don't know where they are--I wanted to download that battery icon so I could see how low my battery was). I also "fixed" the activesync that I'd read about, set it to manual. Maybe that screwed things up, but it seems like its just that the touchscreen is frozen.
Since it was refurbished, and since Dell doesn't really support that much anymore, I got a 2 year warranty. I figured I would use it for 2 years. I really was pleased with it as I think it has a lot of capabilities. I guess I"ll send it back for a fix. I'll call tomorrow. It was working yesterday, and suddenly not this morning. If anyone has any other clues today, let me know. Thanks!

I'm fairly sure that you may have only soft reset (if all you did was push the reset button).
You could try a hard reset by pusing the reset and power buttons at the same time. If you're running WM2003, that should restore the unit to its factory condition.

Yes, that's how you hard reset the device: I'm ashamed to say that I don't know how WM5 will react (given that it has persistent memory), but it's worth a try before you ship it back.
WM5 will be reinstalled when you do the hard reset.
It will be as it was when it came out of the box.
As has been mentioned several times in this thread, but you haven't commented on it,
Check the Lock switch on the left hand side of the Axim.
It is a physical hardware switch that locks all actions except softreset.
Slide the switch so that no red is visible.

I did check the lock switch--that was in the title of my second post. I appreciated that thought although I'm not the type of user that would inadvertantly do that (lock it and not remember).
I just tried a hard reset. The touchscreen is nonresponsive.
Any idea why this would happen--even on a refurbished Axim? Maybe they will send me a different (ie new) refurbished one since this one has only been in use 3 days.

Do you have a screen protector on? I ask because if it has slipped between the screen and the frame of the case, it can make the screen unresponsive. In any case, I'd run the edge of a business card all around the screen between the frame and the screen to see if there is any dust/dirt/debris that could be pressing on the screen.
Does the unit sync when in the cradle? If it does, you might try getting one of the remote desktop software packages (dotPocket from Aurorisoft is one) to see if you can control the Axim from a desktop to get past the stuck screen.
Hi folks, I sent it back to Geeks today. I had to pay my own shipping which was kind of annoying since they sent me a dud. We'll see if they replace it or refund it. I would like to get a replacement, and hope that one is not a dud too. I guess with refurbished items you are taking a risk.
