two weeks ago my T5 screwdriver came and I disassembled my x51v successfully to check if I could repair the speaker, which is still sadly not working. (damn you private ebay seller!)
Surprisingly I couldn't find the speaker! Either its too damn small or I'm just to dumb. :) Could someone point me please to the location of the speaker?
Or do you have other suggestions? Headphones are working (so the software seems all right), I just hear absolutly nothing if I disconnect them. I tried wiggling them around, but it didn't change anything.
Check the headphone socket, too. Sometimes the little switch mechanism on the socket that switches off the speaker when the plug is inserted doesn't reset when the plug is removed.

Thanks in advance, Jakob
It is almost certainly a problem with the headphone jack. This is a common proble with all the X50 and X51 range. When you plug in the 'phones it opens a pair of contacts which disconnect the speaker. If these contacts do not close when you remove he 'phones, then the speaker will still be mute. Try putting a small anount of switch cleaning fluid on the 'phone plug and work it in and out of the jack several times. But since you have opened your Axim it should be possible to inspect the 'phone jack and repair it.
When you open the unit, there are two small spring tabs that make contact with the back of the button board. Those two tabs are for the speaker, which as stated above, is located under the D pad and is about 3mm thick.
This is very interesting for me. I sent out me x51v to PPCTechs for a head phone jack replacement (and a RAM upgrade of course :approve:) and there was no sound from the speaker when I got it back. After a couple of weeks, and re flashing between many many ROM's, it started to work again on it's own. This makes clear sense to me now.
I'll open the axim up again next week and see what I can find. I couldn't find anything at the headphone jack, since I suspected something like that, but sadly I'm no expert...
Though I've never opened up my x51v, I've often pondered the same question: Where is the speaker?
I once had a CB radio (back in the 1970s) that had a handset mic that doubled as a speaker. I could be wrong, but I suspect this is the case with the x51v. The tiny mic (in the upper left hand corner of the unit as you are looking at the screen) may also be the speaker.
Last time when the same thing happened to me, waste a lot of time
monkey around with the phone jack with no result. I was told to try a
hard reset, the sound came back from the speaker. Give it a try, may
work for you.
