X51v Touch Screen Problems... It works, but it keeps acting up

Hey everyone,

Today, i accidently dropped my axim x51v from my hand, onto my desk chair, which wasent a real big drop, and it's cusioned too, so it sucks it messed up my touch screen.

After i dropped it, the touch screen wouldent even barely work, if i touched anywhere on the right side of the screen, it would think im hitting the Contacts button, and if i hit it anywhere on the left half of the screen, it would think i hit Calendar button, EVEN if i hit at the very top start button, it would open calendar.... Well i did a hard reset, and it fixed it, to an extent, now after aligning the screen, it works good for a few mins, then the alignment goes wacky, like if i hit a button in the start menu, it would open the button ABOVE where i am tapping... If this happens, i just do a alignment again, and it works good for maybe 5 minutes, then does the same thing...

Atleast i can use the touch screen, unlike when i first dropped it, but its getting real annoying, especially when im using the on screen keyboard...

I tried taking it apart, i re-seated the connector on the digitizer, and i also cleaned the screen with the case opened... But still didnt fix the problem...

I found this digitizer on ebay, please tell me if you think this one is any good, or if its junk, its coming from hong kong, which is making me think twice about it...

Here is the link:
LCD Touch Digitizer FR Dell Axim X50U X50V X51V +STYLUS - eBay (item 180267099383 end time Jul-24-08 01:19:00 PDT)

Or can i do something to fix it, without buying a new digitizer?

Thanks in advanced!

Read my entire post and that is part of what i said.

Yes, i did re-alignment's like 20 times so far, but like 5 minutes after the realignment it goes back to being messed up.

So technically, every 5 minutes of so, it gatta re-do the alignment.

Any ideas?

Just a quick suggestion, I know you say you cleaned the screen when the case was open, but have you tried cleaning with a piece of card around the screen from the front.
This might get rid of any junk that could be effecting the screen.
Also check that there are no dents to the edge of the case that might be making contact with the screen.
Do you have a screen protector on it, if so try removing it and see if that makes any difference, sometimes tha protector sticks to the case and makes it go nuts.

Any other suggestions?

hmm... i may be having some luck here... i actually thought of something, and so far (atleast for the past 5 minutes) it has been working better...

Bascily, the top screws in the back of the axim, i think, were tightened too tight, so i un-tightened them just a little, and it seems to be working now...

Hmm.. what to do with the digitizer i just bought

I'll keep ya'll posted if on the progress...

If your PDA continues to work, just put the digitizer up for sale. You may not be able to sell it for what you paid, but at least you won't lose the whole amount. :)

I'll probabley just keep the digitizer as a backup, i only paid like $8 for it including shipping, so why not, its not like i wasted a lot on it.

Besides, the way everyone has touch screen problems with the axim's, im probabley better off keeping it, cuz more than likly, mine will go as well one of these days.

My x51v touch screen digitizer broke so I bought one OEM replacement off ebay from Hong Kong and I have just installed in my PDA perfect fit but the touch screen is not responding accurately. I did the calibration test and still is not working as it supposed to work.
The original touch screen has this numbers on it :
A187G-P060729-1151
and the one they send me has:
A187E-P041206-322
from out side, both (original and replacement) digitizers look exactly the same.
I really don't know if this is a compatiblity problem or else but I will let you know what the seller has answer me.

OEM LCD Touch screen Digitizer Fit Dell Axim X51v - eBay (item 180257580115 end time Jun-30-08 20:34:17 PDT)

The seller agree to full refund, the first digitizer they send arrived broken wrapped in toilet paper, yes unbelieveable. The second digitizer came unharmed but is not working, I can't calibrate it. At the end they agree full refund minus shipping. Waste of time. Now I now I get what I pay for...

I 've checked another seller from ebay they said that the Touch Screen they sell is Orignally Brand New one and in PERFECT condition against that OEM one which is priced to be far lower but Untactile, Calibration-Unabled and Word-Adrift. Their price is $57.00

Original New Dell x50U/x50V/x51V Touch Screen Digitizer - eBay (item 190237190379 end time Aug-14-08 07:32:30 PDT)

Any suggestions?

It turns out the digitizer i received in the mail is the wrong kind... the connector (ribbon cable) is backwords... in other words, the contacts are on the bottom, and they're suppose to be on the top...

I emailed the guy, and im waiting for his responce... anyone know what i can do?

Another thing, is the digitizer i got in the mail, dont include the metal housing, that makes it connact to the screen... are they all like this? if so, how do i get to connect to the metal housing, so i can attach it to the screen?
