Dell Axim X51 needs constant soft-resetting

My Dell Axim X51 seems to need fairly constant soft resetting. If I touch the screen nothing happens. If I touch the ON button nothing happens. I have to hit the soft reset in the back with the stylus and wait for it to boot up which it seems to have no problem doing.

I know this might already be a known problem but I couldn't find any posts on it, so excuse me if I am asking again!

Any help would be appreciated!

Zak

Zak,

Probably issue is related to ActiveSync wake up bug.

Go to link below and you will understand. Solution works perfectly.

Solution - Axim not turning on, Disappearing CF/SD Cards and Battery Discharge

This can be a defective screen or if you have a screen protector on the unit it could be that is has interfered with the touch process. Try removing the screen protector and see if that makes a difference. Also do a hard reset not a soft reset to make sure the unit has a clean OS install. Be aware though a hard reset will wipe every thing from your units memory and replace it with whats on the internal ROM.

Thank you for your replies....Youna I did change my activesyn settings and hopefully this won't reoccur. However, I have noticed that my Dell will do this while NOT on the cradle. I will be using the Dell and then it will go to 'sleep' and about, say, 1 hour later, I cannot turn it on except by soft-resetting it. Will the activesyn adjustment solve that problem too?

Thanks again,

Zak

Couple of other things to consider
  • Have you got plenty of memory free on the device?
  • Check that Bluetooth is switched off
  • Try removing any Today Plugins and see if that helps (you can restore them one-by-one to find the culprit)

The fake server trick, as described in Youna's link, should solve that problem for you.

You may also want to look at what version ROM you have, A12 is the last version Dell released. If you have less than that you might like to think about upgrading it.

Zak,

Yes, as Box said, this trick should solve complete problem. Issue is that when ActiveSync wake up to try to sync (non-manual sync), the Dell is lost as not getting any answer from the host. Then has to be reseted ...

I suggest you try that one first, take 1 day to test. If 100% issue not solved, then look at other suggestions posted in your threat. But, as you described your problem, applying it should solve everything.

It appears that Zaks problem got solved but I still have mine. I bought an x50v from ebay (advertized as new and everything about it seemed to be) that was of course wm2003 and few of my programs from my old x51 would work, at least well so I flashed almost immediatey to WM5. I was not very happy so moved on to LennySH wm6.1 A09 rom update. I am getting problems that seem like they should be fixed with the fake server tweak but I have applied that over and over and to no avail. Often, sometimes everytime i put my x50v to sleep, nothing wakes it. I can recover it with a soft reset but if I reset the battery, and press the "on" button, I get an message that there is a memory error and I am instructed to press the Contacts button. I don't know if my Axim had this problem with 2003 or wm5 as I didn't give them much of a chance. Is my memory really erroring out or is it my 4 gig cf or 2 gig sd? I have tried to disable every today pluggin and still get symptoms much like the problems the "wm5 fake server tweak" fixed. Any ideas before I try something more drastic than the hard reset, reinstall that I just did, to no avail?
