Question Stuck on Alignment Screen

Here is the problem. My Axim x51 went to safe boot mode when I tried to start it. I could not get past the safe boot screen so I did a hard reset. Now when I start it up I can not get past the alignment screen. I keep tapping the litte cross that appears and it moves to the corners. When I complete the cycle it forces me to tap the little cross again, and again, and again. It never ends. Any ideas?

Please make sure that you tap the + (cross)dead center on all four
and then you should be able
to go to next screen.

In addition to aedmunds7's comments, I find that it works better with a light press rather than a tap.

You might want to try removing any screen protector (if installed) and cleaning around the edge where the bezel and the screen meet with a business card to get rid of any accumulated dirt or dust. This is generally the sign of a digitizer going south. I had to replace one unit which had this same problem. If you're luck enough to have the unit under extended warranty, I'd call and get a replacement.

If the screen lock is off and you are doing all the above then your digitizer is probably dead. It can be replaced easily if you are comfortable with DIY. If not one of the repair centers will do it for you. If you do it yourself, I have gotten two digitizers off of ebay that have not worked. The connections were on the wrong side and off center from the jack. It kind of worked but I had to tweak it and then it stopped working. I would get one from a reputable shop like PPC Techs.

if it consistently fails:

1) you have some crud under the edge of the screen causing a misdetected press

2) your digitizer is foobared (I have one in a drawer just like it)

Thanks for all the tips/info. I have now removed the screen protecter and gently pressed dead center on the cross for alignment. I have also used a business card to attempt to clean any debris on the side of the screen. It still does not work. How much should I expect to pay to get a new digitizer from a repair shop? Maybe I should just buy a new unit.

The ebay items are about $8. I have had no luck with them. I bought about three from different sellers. Each sent me a similar item with contact points facing the wrong way! Frustrating.
