Hmm Battery starting to deform

Hello all,

I did a copy of my SD card contents to my CF card to empty the SD card the other day. My x51v got pretty hot during the transfer. The following day I noticed the Battery cover is bulging a bit. I turned the axim off and took out the battery. It looks like it is slightly deformed. I am still using it alright and it is charging to 100%, but the battery cover is a bit elevated in the middle. Is there any danger from the battery? i.e. melting, deforming farther, or even exploding? Should I stop using it? It is a Dell original.

I do have a couple of higher capacity ones but do not use them regularly as the Axim becomes very thick. How are the imitation/generic batteries available in places like e-bay? A original Dell replacement looks quite expensive!

Thanks in advance for any advice.

A bulging battery is not a good sign. They can explode. :(

I'd put one of the other batteries in and get a replacement for the standard battery. Be careful with eBay. Some folks have had problems.

Do a search on batteries and you should find some good sources.

Yes, take that battery out ASAP and put it in a ziplok bag or some such and properly dispose of it. You sure don't want battery innards leaking all over your device!

And don't throw it away, find a place that recycles instead. Not sure where you are located but Best Buy or places like it usually have a recycle box for used batteries in the store.

I had a student who had a hot, bulging phone battery. I advised getting rid of it and to NOT put it in her phone. The next day she said her phone went up in a shower of sparks and smoke. Thank goodness it was on a table and not in her pocket at the time!
