The Device manager still recognises my old computer and the calendar reflects the state that it was in before the upgrade to the new one despite selecting the option to sync to the new one.
Q1 Can I remove the link to the old computer to avoid this confusion?
Q2 Can I force the process to sync to my new computer?

How in the hell is Device Manager seeing your old computer? You need to delete the partnership from your device. This will also delete all of your Outlook info (email, task, notes, & contacts). You will need to back-up all of your PIM data first. Then connect your device to your new computer & let it establish a new partnership.
