Capacitor dead?

I am running WM6.1 - it tells me my backup battery is 100% but when I take out the battery - I get a reset in time / date.

WHy is this?

Hey, Waterloo -- There is a long discussion about this topic here.

You can ignore the long discussion and photos of capacitor replacement -- somewhere around page 5 or so of the thread is a link to a great little utility by Mike Spikel that solves the problem. The long and short is that your capacitor is likely dead, and that his utility saves the clock info while you change batteries. I have also found that I can save the date and time if I change batteries with the unit plugged into AC power.

Now i must find a part in Canada (i think it'll be easier to fix the battery). Software - headache, especially when I'm on the go.

Thanks for info

Actually I have a unit that I am using the software fix with and its very simple. It presents an icon on your lower tool bar on your opening screen. Just press the icon and the application ask you if you want to 'Change battery now?'. Select 'Yes" and the unit shuts down after saving the date and time. Just change the battery out and turn your unit back on and the date and time are there. :approve:

Ditto on that -- it is a great little program - and takes up very little program space.

Not if you close out your applications. The process is a soft reset (like any battery change out will produce) but the application writes the present date and time and resets the unit to that date and time. Tons easier than opening up your unit and physically working on it IMHO. :approve:
