X51V Error Message About Locating File Paths

Hello,

I use a Socket barcode scanner which plugs into the top of the PDA (Dell X51V). After all the Socket software is installed (I checked in the programs), I now have been getting an error message that prevents the scanner from being used.

When pushing a button now which usually triggers the scanner (red beam), a blue box appears titled 'Shortcut Target' with a red X on the left-hand side and the message of 'Error opening the shortcut or locating the target filename'.

I have deleted and then reinstalled the Socket software and backed up some files and then restored the PDA, but none of this seems to work. I don't know what to do with file path/shortcut errors.

Can anyone offer some suggestions if you've encountered this before? Thanks.

First - Welcome to Mobilityste. Lot of good info and ppl here.

Second - I assume the barcode reader plugs into the SD or CF card slot. Where did you load the software? On the AX itself or on an SD or CF card?

It's loaded on the Axim itself.

I did a search of the site and don't see too much about barcode readers. You might want to contact Socket themselves. I know sometimes there are issues with drivers on the plugin CF & SD slots.

I personally have a SD WiFi card and the original drivers would not work. I had to go to the manufacturer's WEB site and download the latest drivers.

Thanks for your help kcallahan. I have been informed by someone who knows a lot more than me about this that my best option is to try a restore to the factory settings. I know this is not easy to do for someone like me. Do you know what needs to be done to restore the PDA to its factory settings? I will post this on the main board as well. Thanks again.

You would need to do a hard reset to restore the AX to the factory settings. To do a hard reset:

1 - Press the Power button to turn the Axim unit On.
2 - Press and hold the Power button down while using the Axim stylus to
press the Reset button at the same time.
3 - Release the Power button and the Reset button.
The To clear all data in the memory screen appears.
4 - Press the Contacts button on the Axim to delete all of the data in the
memory of the Axim handheld.

You should backup a ALL your data before you do this.
