I get Total Storage card memory: Not installed, tried soft reset to no avail.
Not all Seagate microdrives work with the X51V but the one you indicated does. I have one also. I would check your drive with another X51V or with a external card reader on a PC. Could be as simple as it needs to be reformatted or as complicated as the drive has been damaged. Another area to check out would be your units CF slot itself.
rlarson_mn is correct yours should work. There were alot of card floating around on ebay that people pulled out of OEM device. These cards will generally work in the device they were intended for like a digital camera will not work in the Axim.
I just found some writing on it that says: "for Embedded application only", this means it wont work right?
If your drive actually is a '8GB seagate st1.2 Drive microdrive' then it was made for devices utilizing CF external memory. As I indicated above I have one of these st1.2 8gb Seagate microdrives and it has worked well for me. There were two issues with it, one removal of the microdrive from my CF slot required placing a small piece of clear packaging tape onto the microdrive itself forming a removal tab to pull on instead of using a plyers. The second issue was the care required in handling the microdive since it actually had moving parts inside. I now use this drive to hold pictures of the contents of my home for insurance sake and store it in my bank box. I have replaced it with a 16gb CF memory card which has no moving parts. :approve:
Bought it on ebay, Just checked it using a card reader and its says its formatted to fat32.
If your microdrive can be seen by your pc using a external memory card holder it should be good to use with your unit. If you can get ahold of another CF memory card I would test your slot on your unit next since it may be the issue not the memory card.
Thanks guys I tried a cf card and it works on my x51, I might just use the microdrive like a usb drive since it works with the card reader and not my x51.
How is the microdrive on battery life? I would tend to think it uses more power than a cf card, but maybe it is negligible.
My microdrive with heavy use (movies, mp3, etc.) not only made my unit hot around the CF slot but drained my battery about 1/3 faster than my current solid state 16gb CF card. In addition unless you applied the clear box tape trick to form a removal tab it was almost impossible to remove the microdrive. This of course is not the case with my current solid state CF memory card. :approve:
