x51v won't turn on

Left my x51v inactive for over a year
Now when I placed my x51v on the cradle, the orange light is on, however it won't turn on.
Ensured that it is not the battery latch problem and the lock button is not on.
Soft and hard reset was done and nothing happened.
Wondering that is it the battery problem.
I found it cannot be turned on without the battery on the cradle too.
Can it be turned on with AC power only? (without the battery)
If no, I am considering to buy a new battery to test it.
Thanks.

Are you charging by AC adapter or USB? Make sure you are using the AC adapter as USB won't provide enough power to charge up a dead battery. If you are already using the AC adapter, charge it until it is topped up. And no, the device can't power up by AC adapter only (i.e., no battery).

The X51v will run without the battery.
I have mine running now without it, in the cradle with AC connected.
Make sure the battery cover is on properly.
The charging light may flash when you plug it in but generally it stays off.

That's interesting. Many people have reported that it will not run without the battery, and I just tried it with my X50v only to get an error. I wonder what the variables are...

Hello Gigi,
I hope you didn't think I was contradicting you, I was just pointing out that mine worked.

I don't have an X50 so I can't test it.
Perhaps it is something to do with the Operating System, I believe the X50 started out with WM2003 and the X51 has WM5, maybe it is because of the persistent memory, or it's possible that they have a different hardware configuration.

I honestly don't know.

FWIW
I just tried both the x50v and the x51v sans battery, in cradle, ac power. Both of them operated fine.
The x50v is running wm2003 and the x51v is running 6.1 (build 19209.1.0.2 LennySH)

Perhaps an additional software change when the went from qvga to vga?

Thanks mates.
Just went through some searches and found people do have a "battery drained out" issue after a long period of inactivity.
So I am going to buy a new battery to give it a try anyway.
And yes, will post up the result for sure.

No, no, no!!! I didn't you you were contradicting me at all. I was just surprised yet glad that it worked for you. As RichL also reported, it should work without the battery. I'll have to try mine again. :hide:

Aximsitex50icon My x50v will not turn on

I had my x50v without use for a couple of months because my touch screen went bad. Just received the replacement and started working fine yesterday. Today the x50v froze twice and soft reset to get it working. The 3rd time I soft reset and it just stayd off. No way to turn it back on, does not respont to Power Botton, Soft Reset or Hard Reset.

Any sugestions to getting it back on?

Of course, the first step is to test if the lock switch is on. Jiggle it a few times.

Next, try the diagnostic mode:
1. Press the Power button + the record button (On the side) at the same time
2. While holding the two, poke the reset hole
3. While still holding the two, release the reset hole
4. When the diagnostic screen pops up, release the Power button + the record button
5. Follow all instructions

I was able to turn it on once and ran the danostics, but while intje flash test froze again. After waiting over 15 mintes reset to try again, but never turned on again. I have been trying since you posted your reply and have not been able to turn it on again.

When it did turn on was without the battery and plugged in to the AC.

Any other sugestion?

My best guess is possibly a bad motherboard...

Try opening it up again and re-seating all of the connectors. It could also be the battery door switch. There's a thread on Aximsite about replacing the switch with a jumper. You'll have to search to find it.
