Icon3 White screen but still operating

Hello,

here is how it happened.

I was going to open an image using my favorite photo viewer when the screen suddenly became white. I didn't do with my axim (x51v) anything, just gently holding :rolling:

If I tilt the screen almost 180 degrees, I can see that there is still an image on my LCD.
Actually it is fully functioning. Soft/hard reset - doesn't help. Brightness control results in nothing.

The device charges, synchronizes normally. I can make screenshots out of it and see nice 640x480 images on my laptop.

I thought it was LCD unit. But when I replaced it nothing changed Still the same white screen.

I am thinking about flashing new (old?) firmware for it, but have no idea if it is worthy.
Now I have A12 and WM5.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Hmm

Are you still using the original rom wm 5? If you can't get to the remove programs to remove that program or delete running programs and a soft reset doesn't work. I would take a serious look at the hard reset. (Make sure the hard reset is done correctly). That should put the whole axim to the way that you it was when you purchased it.

Seems there is a contrast issue.

Try getting a registry editor like Memmaid or this.

Then go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/ControlPanel/Contrast

Change the values of (default) and Redirect to -225. See if works.

If not, give mostlylisten's hard reset idea. Be sure to backup first!

Just to be clear. You did do a hard reset meaning your axim went back to factory default & you had calibrate the screen? Now your screeen is still white. Is this your scenario? If so, then I would recheck the connection from replacing the LCD. If this were a software issue the hard reset would have resolved the issue.

I have tried many hard resets, but with no results. I am using official WM5 A12 ROM. I have also tried to reflash it - nothing changed.

I deleted that key from the registry so the Contrast tab appeared in the settings.
Dark values give better image but still white and hard to see anything.

Exactly.
I disassembled the axim 3 times, trying to replace the LCD and fix the connections. Probably I am doing it wrong, but that doesn't seem to be very tricky.

I've opened it today to make the photo of the LCD connection.
Here it is: img14.imageshack.us/img14/7135/lcdcablevo3.jpg

Looks like it doesn't fit firmly, but I cannot push it any further.

Just went to a local mobile repairs to check what is wrong. The screen is dead indeed, they tried it on another PDA and it didn't work. Moreover some controller on my Axim's MB is dead as well. Trying to connect working LCD to it results in the same white screen.

Just cannot imagine, how could that happen
